U.S. and Canada foil Al Qaeda terrorist plot to derail New York to Toronto passenger train, two suspects arrested

Canadian law enforcement officials announced Monday that they had stopped an al-Qaeda-linked plot to derail a New York-to-Toronto VIA passenger train, and have arrested two suspects in Montreal and Toronto.


Two suspected Al Qaeda terrorists were busted Monday in Canada before they could wreak havoc on the rails by blowing up a New York-to-Toronto passenger train.

The plan hatched by Chiheb Esseghaier and Raed Jaser — and directed by Al Qaeda operatives based in Iran — was derailed by the Mounties before it ever got out of the station, officials said.

But it threw a scare into the Canadians, who have charged the alleged trainspotting terrorists with “terrorism-related offenses.”

“This is the first known Al Qaeda planned attack that we’ve experienced in Canada,” said Superintendent Doug Best of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

i mean, no warnings --- this is already a lot of derailments in the last 30 days. They should issue a warning or precautions and add extra securities

in what context are you asking that question?

From the perception of a string of train derailments being acts of terrorism; I wonder the reason for targeting trains. To stem the flow of rapid transit systems or to target a lot of moving people?

"Counter-terrorism officers are investigating a suspected nail bomb attack outside a mosque in the West Midlands, Sky sources say.

Police were called to Binfield Street in Tipton around 1pm after residents reported hearing a loud bang and seeing smoke.

Officers said the explosion is being treated as a terrorist incident and police found nails and other debris over a fairly wide area.

No-one was injured but a cordon was set up in part of the town, people were evacuated and several streets were sealed off.

The blast was believed to have happened on a disused RAILWAY LINE behind the Kanz Ul Iman Masjid mosque in Binfield Street.
