Do you believe the gates of hell prevailed against Christ's church?
How do we find the original church? Through "Sola Scriptura"? Of course not.. the canon of the Bible wasn't even settled until 367 A.D. ..and it wasn't the western Roman Church that proclaimed the final canon of Holy Scripture, it was the eastern churches of Alexandria, Antioch, Constantinople, and Jerusalem (now the Eastern Orthodox) that finalized the Canon.

The very first act of the infant church was a call to repentance and baptism in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, where the gift of the Holy Spirit is then received. That promise (and practice) was clearly for both adults and their children. We also learn they immediately started taking communion and praying regularly in the temple (hence the continuation of liturgical service from the very beginning):

Act 2:38-46 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. 40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. 42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. 44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

So.. the earliest church had the following for both adults and children:

1. baptism in Christ's name for the remission of sins (and adding children to the church)

2. receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit (originally accomplished by the Apostles laying hands on baptized disciples ['learners'], but when the Apostles couldn't be everywhere at once, they ordained the act of anointing with chrism ("chrismation") for reception of the Holy Spirit:

1 Jn 2:20,27 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. ... 27 And as for you, the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

G5545 χρίσμα chrisma khris'-mah

From G5548; an unguent or smearing, that is, (figuratively) the special endowment (“chrism”) of the Holy Spirit: - anointing, unction.

Thayer Definition:

1) anything smeared on, unguent, ointment, usually prepared by the Hebrews from oil and aromatic herbs. Anointing was the inaugural ceremony for priests

2 Co 1:21-22 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath -anointed- us, is God; 22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

G5548 χρίω chriō khree'-o

Probably akin to G5530 through the idea of contact; to smear or rub with oil, that is, (by implication) to consecrate to an office or religious service: - anoint.

Thayer Definition:

1) to anoint

1a) consecrating Jesus to the Messianic office, and furnishing him with the necessary powers for its administration

1b) enduing Christians with the gifts of the Holy Spirit

2 Co 1:22 Who hath also -sealed- us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

1b) since things sealed up are concealed (as the contents of a letter), to hide, keep in silence, keep secret

1c) in order to mark a person or a thing

1c1) to set a mark upon by the impress of a seal or a stamp

1c2) angels are said to be sealed by God

1d) in order to prove, confirm, or attest a thing

1d1) to confirm authenticate, place beyond doubt

1d1a) of a written document

1d1b) to prove one’s testimony to a person that he is what he professes to be

Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

3. receiving communion/'breaking bread' directly after being baptized and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit

Nope I believe it actually says somewhere that the church will not be subdued by the gates of hell or something like that.

Matthew 28: [18] And Jesus coming, spoke to them, saying: All power is given to me in heaven and in earth. [19] Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. [20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.

First Epistle Of Saint Paul To The Corinthians 1: [6] As the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, [7] So that nothing is wanting to you in any grace, waiting for the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ. [8] Who also will confirm you unto the end without crime, in the day of the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. [9] God is faithful: by whom you are called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. [10] Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no schisms among you; but that you be perfect in the same mind, and in the same judgment.

[11] For it hath been signified unto me, my brethren, of you, by them that are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. [12] Now this I say, that every one of you saith: I indeed am of Paul; and I am of Apollo; and I am of Cephas; and I of Christ. [13] Is Christ divided?

The schism of Core and his adherents: their punishment.

[link to www.drbo.org]

Numbers 16: [1] And behold Core the son of Isaar, the son of Caath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiron the sons of Eliab, and Hon the son of Pheleth of the children of Ruben, [2] Rose up against Moses, and with them two hundred and fifty others of the children of Israel, leading men of the synagogue, and who in the time of assembly were called by name. [3] And when they had stood up against Moses and Aaron, they said: Let it be enough for you, that all the multitude consisteth of holy ones, and the Lord is among them: Why lift you up yourselves above the people of the Lord? [4] When Moses heard this, he fell flat on his face: [5] And speaking to Core and all the multitude, he said: In the morning the Lord will make known who belong to him, and the holy he will join to himself: and whom he shall choose, they shall approach to him.

Numbers 16: [16] And he said to Core: Do thou and thy congregation stand apart before the Lord tomorrow, and Aaron apart. [17] Take every one of you censers, and put incense upon them, offering to the Lord two hundred and fifty censers: let Aaron also hold his censer. [18] When they had done this, Moses and Aaron standing, [19] And had drawn up all the multitude against them to the door of the tabernacle, the glory of the Lord appeared to them all. [20] And the Lord speaking to Moses and Aaron, said:

[21] Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may presently destroy them. [22] They fell flat on their face, and said: O most mighty, the God of the spirits of all flesh, for one man' s sin shall thy wrath rage against all? [23] And the Lord said to Moses: [24] Command the whole people to separate themselves from the tents of Core and Dathan and Abiron. [25] And Moses arose, and went to Dathan and Abiron: and the ancients of Israel following him,

[26] He said to the multitude: Depart from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be involved in their sins. [27] And when they were departed from their tents round about, Dathan and Abiron coming out stood in the entry of their pavilions with their wives and children, and all the people. [28] And Moses said: By this you shall know that the Lord hath sent me to do all things that you see, and that I have not forged them of my own head: [29] If these men die the common death of men, and if they be visited with a plague, wherewith others also are wont to be visited, the Lord did not send me. [30] But if the Lord do a new thing, and the earth opening her mouth swallow them down, and all things that belong to them, and they go down alive into hell, you shall know that they have blasphemed the Lord.

[31] And immediately as he had made an end of speaking, the earth broke asunder under their feet: [32] And opening her mouth, devoured them with their tents and all their substance. [33] And they went down alive into hell the ground closing upon them, and they perished from among the people. [34] But all Israel, that was standing round about, fled at the cry of them that were perishing: saying: Lest perhaps the earth swallow us up also. [35] And a fire coming out from the Lord, destroyed the two hundred and fifty men that offered the incense.

2 Peter 2:1
But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there shall be among you lying teachers, who shall bring in sects of perdition, and deny the Lord who bought them: bringing upon themselves swift destruction.

Exodus 20:14
Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Wisdom 14: [22] And it was not enough for them to err about the knowledge of God, but whereas they lived in a great war of ignorance, they call so many and so great evils peace. [23] For either they sacrifice their own children, or use hidden sacrifices, or keep watches full of madness, [24] So that now they neither keep life, nor marriage undefiled, but one killeth another through envy, or grieveth him by adultery: [25] And all things are mingled together, blood, murder, theft and dissimulation, corruption and unfaithfulness, tumults and perjury, disquieting of the good,

[26] Forgetfulness of God, defiling of souls, changing of nature, disorder in marriage, and the irregularity of adultery and uncleanness.

Genesis 2:24
Wherefore a man shall leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they shall be two in one flesh.

Deuteronomy 5:18
Neither shalt thou commit adultery.

Matthew 19: [1] And it came to pass when Jesus had ended these words, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judea, beyond Jordan. [2] And great multitudes followed him: and he healed them there. [3] And there came to him the Pharisees tempting him, and saying: Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? [4] Who answering, said to them: Have ye not read, that he who made man from the beginning, Made them male and female? And he said: [5] For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be in one flesh.

[6] Therefore now they are not two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder. [7] They say to him: Why then did Moses command to give a bill of divorce, and to put away? [8] He saith to them: Because Moses by reason of the hardness of your heart permitted you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. [9] And I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and he that shall marry her that is put away, committeth adultery. [10] His disciples say unto him: If the case of a man with his wife be so, it is not expedient to marry.

Matthew 5:27
You have heard that it was said to them of old: Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Matthew 5:28
But I say to you, that whosoever shall look on a woman to lust after her, hath already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Matthew 5:32
But I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, excepting for the cause of fornication, maketh her to commit adultery: and he that shall marry her that is put away, committeth adultery.

Matthew 19:9
And I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and he that shall marry her that is put away, committeth adultery.

Matthew 19:18
He said to him: Which? And Jesus said: Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness.

Mark 10:11
And he saith to them: Whosoever shall put away his wife and marry another, committeth adultery against her.

Marriage in the Eastern Orthodox Church

Divorce

Divorce is permitted in the Orthodox Church for various reasons. The more usual divorce occurs under the pastoral guidance of the spiritual director of the spouses when all attempts at salvaging a marriage have been exhausted. In such cases, remarriage may be possible but there is a special rite for a second marriage which contains a penitential element for the dissolution of the first, i.e. some of the more joyful aspects are removed.[2] Marriage is permitted up to three times in Orthodoxy but each divorce necessitates a short period of excommunication. The Orthodox Church, as the saying goes, "blesses the first marriage, performs the second, tolerates the third, and forbids the fourth".

Matthew 7:16
By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

Mark 10:12
And if the wife shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

Mark 10:19
Thou knowest the commandments: Do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, bear not false witness, do no fraud, honour thy father and mother.

Luke 16:18
Every one that putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and he that marrieth her that is put away from her husband, committeth adultery.

Luke 18:20
Thou knowest the commandments: Thou shalt not kill: Thou shalt not commit adultery: Thou shalt not steal: Thou shalt not bear false witness: Honour thy father and mother.

Ezechiel (Ezeckiel) 23: [37] Because they have committed adultery, and blood is in their hands, and they have committed fornication with their idols: moreover also their children, whom they bore to me, they have offered to them to be devoured. [38] Yea, and they have done this to me. They polluted my sanctuary on the same day, and profaned my sabbaths. [39] And when they sacrificed their children to their idols, and went into my sanctuary the same day to profane it: they did these things even in the midst of my house.

1 Corinthians 11: [16] But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor the church of God. [17] Now this I ordain: not praising you, that you come together not for the better, but for the worse. [18] For first of all I hear that when you come together in the church, there are schisms among you; and in part I believe it. [19] For there must be also heresies: that they also, who are approved, may be made manifest among you. [20] When you come therefore together into one place, it is not now to eat the Lord' s supper.

[21] For every one taketh before his own supper to eat. And one indeed is hungry and another is drunk. [22] What, have you not houses to eat and to drink in? Or despise ye the church of God; and put them to shame that have not? What shall I say to you? Do I praise you? In this I praise you not.

Matthew 7: [21] Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doth the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. [22] Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied in thy name, and cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name? [23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity. [24] Every one therefore that heareth these my words, and doth them, shall be likened to a wise man that built his house upon a rock, [25] And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded on a rock.

[26] And every one that heareth these my words, and doth them not, shall be like a foolish man that built his house upon the sand, [27] And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell, and great was the fall thereof. [28] And it came to pass when Jesus had fully ended these words, the people were in admiration at his doctrine. [29] For he was teaching them as one having power, and not as the scribes and Pharisees.

Luke 13:28
There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you shall see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

Zacharias (Zachariah) 13:2
