Does the Magna Carta have jurisdiction in Australia too?
We are under British rule and AFAIK the magna carta still holds firm in the UK.

We do have our own constitution though.

Does anyone know how this would work?

The Government is there to Govern us, not rule over us.

Re: Does the Magna Carta have jurisdiction in Australia too?
only in the 'commonwealth of australia' , or so to speak.

if you've lived here for long, you will know the ins and outs and history of it all.

all goverments anywhere are to govern, ruling used to come from monarchs, these days it's from corporate governments(what we would end up with if we became a republic and why the australian population is overwhelmingly opposed to doing so) like in US or dictators.

only the US president , with all the executive powers their last republican administration brought in can really be defined as a 'ruler' of it's people, the australian government has no where near that sort of power and would require permision from the people via referendum to enact such laws. this is also why organisations like the plethora of intrusive powerfull government 'letter agencies, like the US FBI, NSA, DIR, ATF, DEA,CIA etc. cannot exist here.

the british monarch has no 'ruling' power here whatsoever and even in britain has no executive powers like a US president.

the main issues in corporate ruled countries and dictatorships are crime, corruption, social discontent, unemployment ,high violence and the ever increasing gap between rich and poor,as seen in US, which has both the worlds highest and fastest increasing for developed nations.

our constitution was crafted not to hand power to a corporate oligarcy like the US did, and really, that is it's only purpose. we should be thankful to it's rather clever authors for this.

A lot of our common laws are based on British laws. But that's not your point besides British law holds a lot of influence here in Australia.

The Magna Carter has no jurisdiction anywhere. Our countries are governed by the rule of law, not some 800 year old document.

So age matters?

I mean, if our constitutions are over 100 years old, does that automatically make them redundant?

Of course age matters. The laws that govern the land are continually evolving.

The Magna Carta seeded our modern legal system, it's not really a constitution.
