Tidal waves at Louisiana sinkhole, now more than 500 feet deep

Re: Tidal waves at Louisiana sinkhole, now more than 500 feet deep
Question?: what is the salinity of the water in the sinkhole?

I know it has been tested, but have the results been reported?

Are they saying the water is emanating from a salt dome to disguise the fact that this water is flooding in from the GOM?
 Quoting: UseLessRepEATER

This is also something I'd like to know. How salty is that water in the sink hole. Could it be they do not want to inform us of that cause they know it's coming from the GOM?

I'm driving from Houston to Tampa next month. Part of me wants to take a detour to Assumption Parrish and try to take pictures.
 Quoting: SaltyFlats

Could you see if maybe you can gather a few bottles of that water and have it tested for salinity? I know it might be too much to ask, But I have noticed it's gotten very close to highway 70. So it shouldn't be too hard to get a sample.

I don't know if they are telling us the truth. I doubt it. But from all my reading I understand, (and I could be wrong) that this sinkhole likely has more clear water at the top as salt water is heavier and would sink more to the bottom. Also the sinkhole is thought to be on top of or combining with the mississippi aluvial aquifer, and that would be a source of more clear water, coming to the top.
They have justified their insistance that is is low salinity by saying the trees and fish are not dying. ?
This is all from casual memory - I may have not stated it exactly right - just the basic of it.

fairly salty as it has been dissolving some of the salt domes there, but not so salty as to prevent more salt dome dissolving.

one of the better ideas i've heard since this started was to dump a ton of salt in there to prevent the sinkhole from growing. of course if it's connected to the GoM at this point, subject to tidal waves, it's too late for that.

Seems like a good idea. Anyone who has ever had a salt water aquarium should have a hydrometer, which could be floated directly in the sinkhole water itself, or a sample may be taken and put into a tall plastic cylinder where the hydrometer may be inserted and a reading may be taken remotely. Most aquariums are around the "1020" density. The reason I queried as to whether the water was mostly saline correlates directly with the tidial movements of the water which seem consistent with a low/high tide water level shift suggesting a direct link to the GOM. Even if the water were proven to be brackish, I believe there could still be a connection to the GOM.

John Boudreaux has reported another depth survey has been completed in the center of the sinkhole. A video has been posted on YouTube showing that 750' of cord was used and all 750' went down to bottom. This information has been sent to the Blue Ribbon Commission for there review.

DEPTH WAS 500 feet a day ago.
 Quoting: ancha

I watched the vid waiting to see something compelling, but there was no reference to actual depth . . . it appears he ran out of cord, but didn't tell the viewer how much was on that roll.

Can you provide more proof that it was 750?

But moreover, can you cite something that proves the depth was 500 feet one day ago?

If that's true, it is troubling.

Thanks.

It is a troubling situation.
I believe this is the deepest level the sinkhole has ever been and it is not stopping. Typical behavior seems to be - seismic activity for a few days, sometimes several days, a small burp, a pause, a larger burp, and the level drops, the perimiter increases, debris comes to the top, sinkhole is larger. Sometimes the depth has been more shallow after a burp, as debris rises and causes a false bottom. A more accurate depth measurement takes a day or so after an event.

as to questions of the water content, it was reported to be low salinity with diesel early on. not sure what they say now.

Thanks, ancha, I too have been following this story pretty much from the beginning and there's a lot to try and understand about it.

I do know there have been variations in depth for the very reasons you state above.

Sorry if I'm just finding it, but I still cannot locate anything confirming that the depth was 500 feet yesterday.

Can you confirm that for me, because if there's a 250 feet lowering in one day, I should think would be great cause for concern.

Thanks.

It's all going to erode from below and collapse. The maps were out years ago but the how wasn't understood.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9380226

That map perfectly overlaps Cayce's map !

Your map is a map that came from military sources/leaks.

This whole EVENT has been put to action decades ago.
Remember the post about "the tunnel-making patent" ?
Remember the massive machines with more then 4 meters diameter that drill themselves into strata ?
Remember the multiple occasions that submarines went MISSING in a cave-system ? [Yes sub-continental cave-systems and tunnels from the ocean waters to far inland the continent! Think it was Operation Scorpio where that sub went missing.]

*** We all researched and reported these topics in the BEZERK-thread

Remember the mysterious sounds/noise people witnessed at night, rumblings and roarings > many of that are/were related to [secret] tunnel-drilling deep below their towns ...

Many dots connect the greater picture.

Do you all remember the BP gulf oil incident? This sink hole in LA is a planned result of that.

Also the future map of the area is a result of the planned BP oil rig explosion.

That oil rig blowing up in the Gulf of Mexico was a planned event in case you missed it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 43581613

Yes, there are multiple threads here about that.

BP nuked a fault line.

The consequences of that are playing out, slowly . . . and no one knows for sure what it will lead to.

Ultimate goal may be division of USA, via New Madrid waterway.

TPTB would benefit greatly from a north/south waterway.

9:45 a.m. Update
Additional hydrocarbon and debris have come to the surface of the sinkhole. Also, John Boudreaux has tagged bottom in the center of the sinkhole (where the raindrop bubbles are occurring) and the depth is over 500 although, debris was felt at about 175 to 200 (while the weight continued to fall to the 500 depth). Attempts will be made some time this week to measure (with a longer measuring device) to obtain the depth of what is suspected to be the upside down witches hat.
We will update accordingly.
END
So if you take this reading of July 14th and there were one or two burps in between the 14th and the current measurement of 750 plus...
IF you go to the archives and read thru all of July you will get the idea. It was too much to paste here. I can see that it could be disputed that "Yesterday" the depth was unknown, but we all still get the idea. Right?

Thanks . . . I find it so frustrating that this story is not getting attention . . . MSM is so hellbent on promoting racial unrest and other non-issues, but the sinkhole is such an intensely serious issue and much of the country doesn't even know about it. I'm in Texas and have been keeping up with this from the start, but NO ONE I know around here has ever heard about it, so you can imagine how few know about it in states further from LA!

This is also something I'd like to know. How salty is that water in the sink hole. Could it be they do not want to inform us of that cause they know it's coming from the GOM?
 Quoting: El Quisqueyano

I don't know if they are telling us the truth. I doubt it. But from all my reading I understand, (and I could be wrong) that this sinkhole likely has more clear water at the top as salt water is heavier and would sink more to the bottom. Also the sinkhole is thought to be on top of or combining with the mississippi aluvial aquifer, and that would be a source of more clear water, coming to the top.
They have justified their insistance that is is low salinity by saying the trees and fish are not dying. ?
This is all from casual memory - I may have not stated it exactly right - just the basic of it.

Just imagine how much bigger this will be if the same thing starts happening with this hole. How many miles of land will go down once all the salt mines start collapsing.

There won't be a suction of sort, I am thinking a collapse of the land mass and a rush of GOM waters up this new valley, that will be created. Massive tidal waves and a rush of GOM water that could go miles into the coast.

Seems to me there could be the potential for half of the state or more could go down once it starts collapsing. No way to know where or how long it would keep falling before it stopped.

Thanks . .

MSM is the enemy. Never expect them to report on anything that is really important or actual news.

Ok, admit I've skipped over much of these comments, but did read the linked article.

Why hasn't anyone here mentioned that the methane caverns way under ground have built to 600 psi? And there may be billions of cubic feet of methane down there?

That in itself is quite doom-worthy.

Certainly significant and has been discussed in many of the threads. There are so many complexities to this story, it's difficult for everyone to keep up with everything.

Perhaps we need an "OFFICIAL" sinkhole thread that will encompass all the facts, stats, news updates, etc. so that concerned folks won't have to scramble to look through all the other threads.

I have no understanding of the potential meaning of this. Can you explain. I know they drill relief wells, is that why, because of pressure?

And sea levels in the GOM have been rising at a very fast pace, so there is a lot of water just brimming to rush on in.
