Snake Farm Insurance is being terrible, but after jumping thru hoops and documenting all extremely visible damage from two sf adjusters and my public adjuster and then documentation from service centers we had to drive a total of 8 hours (as we have no high end dealers close to our home) I finally have all the paperwork for these sob's to pay. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1644158 I had, Martin Logan Request speakers, purchased almost new in 99. Upgraded to new panels in 08. Adcom 565 monoblocks tricked out in 2000 for bottom end Burmester 956 for top Meridian 565 pre and processor and 506.20 cd rane thx 44 eq NBS sig 3 cables Yamaha 3090 for ht and surround mk thx 150 center and rear surround Marshall jmc800 79 gibson les paul standard black, jackson charvel mod6, regal tricone resonator guitar, really cool I have stored German Physiks Borderland, ATC 100 passive, legacy focus, altec 9846 studio monitors ala 1970 era recording studio refugee and an old pair of vmps classic something 2 So I am about to be depreciated from HELL. Any advice on beating actual cash value ( as some equipment was perfect but aged, kind of like the owner) and replacement value? I have a plan but would like to hear something from an experienced earth surfer. I plan on replacing with Summit X from ML Manley neo classic 500 tube amp, and a McIntosh c50 tube pre amp with tone controls. Might use a Wolcott Audio 440 gold amp. I will use a media server yet to be determined, I like meridian (used) Wow, you're in a rough spot! Charvel m6, drool, I miss mine! No one in the insurance business is gonna respect your equipment or it's value, I don't know much to say! I'm curious to hear your plan, though...how can you get around SF just calling it "old stuff"? |

Read and understand your policy. Tell them fu and stand up for yourself. I was screwed by State Harm Insurance twice in the past. Swore it would not happen again. I have gotten a good size check for personal items. We will see what happens on depreciation. They paid 3090$ for by Les Paul. ACV with more when replaced. I am plan to replace with the PRS Pauls Guitar from the Private Stock and the Faded Blue color. I cant wait. I will replace the marshall with the new Mesa Boogie v90 and gonna splurge and a Mahaffey aw99. I also lost a small cube botique amp from Mahaffey, the little lanilei. www.mahaffey.com I miss my old Yamaha acoustic worse than anything. Kind of like your good old dog. Remember a 600$ guitar will get you buy when you do not have 600.00 I just had to throw that in. SF would have really died if my burmester and german physiks borderlands were gone. Anonymous Coward User ID: 2941214 United States 07/24/2013 12:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here's something old that may be new to ya... One that I used to audition a lot of my gear on was either Jean Michele Jarre's Equinoxe or Oxygene (but the Telarc Labs pressings). They're both nothing but oldschool analog synth, but hit nearly every frequency! LOL Some of the stuff I'd SWEAR rolls off around 20 and there's a good bunch of 17K plus! Real good stuff though! He was originally lumped into the "New Age" genre if you could even find him in the old record stores, but if you're familiar, he's kinda like a milder Kraftwerk without vocals! Pick up Andreas Vollenweider's White Winds for a tasty sonic treat! Bro you just brought back soooo many memories! He's a Harp guy right? I had a few of his too... White Lion or Dancing Lion..Off the top of my head! Thanks for the reminder! I'm definitely going to have to "re-discover" him again! Yep - he's the guy. It would fall under the New Age category I suppose. Sonically the production on his albums is excellent - great channel separation and lots of sound effects and various instruments. It's a great listen on high end equipment. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 43454936 United States 07/24/2013 12:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yesss? go ahead. Where can I get a tube amp ummmm cheap? Is the Chinese stuff any good? Svetlana tubes rock, but do the Russians have any amps? Chinese stuff is hit and miss, but cheap. I love my Aune headfone preamp, but went American for my other tube needs. Look into Jolida, I'm a bit biased, as I own a lot of their stuff, but great bang for the buck! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 13967411 United States 07/24/2013 02:37 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So, I'll kick it off with my gear: Quoting: Fret Wiz 2 Jolida 202a amps, Music hall 5.1SE Turntable, Jolida JD9a preamp. I have them bi-amped to a pair of Allison CD-9's. In my living room, I'm running Marantz MM7055 w/ matching amp (too lazy to get the model, sorry!). This is a 5.1 system, I have a pair of Allison Ones up front, Allison Twos in the rear and an Infinity Beta for the center channel (I may replace this with an Allison Four I have soon). I have the latest Oppo player (BDP95, I think). That thing just rocks! Yesterday I was thinking about great production, as I switched from Donald Fagen's latest to Incubus' S.C.I.E.N.C.E. Anything Steely Dan related, Alan Parsons...just such good production. Parsons' 4.0 Quad mix of Dark Side of the Moon is just amazing. Search the internet, it's out there in glorious 24/96, completely unauthorized and extracted by some brave soul at the studio! I listened recently to Journey's Escape remaster (maybe the quietest vinyl I own), and Styx's Pieces of Eight. Blown away by these old recordings, they are both great remasters! Too bad surround music died quickly after a brief resurgence. I really love that stuff. Only a few titles a year come out, thank god for Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree, they're trying their best to keep the format alive! So, what are you listening to and what are you listening to it on? What are you using for cables? Aural Symphonics is the gold standard in my opinion www.auralsymphonics.com Aw, I'm using Outlaw cables. I don't buy into the whole interconnect thing; I've yet to hear a difference, what do you say; is there a difference? The difference is night and day. The best cable is NO cable. I have over three thousand just in stereo cables for my two channel. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 13967411 United States 07/24/2013 02:41 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Van Alstine all the way. Magnepan 1.7 Tuba THT. My theater is another story. You are wasting your time with CD. Vinyl all the way. Best production [link to www.youtube.com] Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13967411 Love records too, and have over 1000 in storage. But, there's a lot to be said for the convenience of digital done right. A zillion FLAC rips on the hard drive, and the Mog service for jukebox convenience and new music exploration are pretty hard to beat. Love the video with the audio and currently amassing a decent concert video collection. Hard to imagine life without quality music on a good system!! Done right, the room disappears and you get your own private session from the artist. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 13967411 United States 07/24/2013 02:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No, straight two-way, OP. Bit of a purist and a two channel guy (no sub for me). Quoting: BxMac Glad you know about the asylum. Another good place to get used gear at a reasonable price is at audiogon. Front owners (not the brick and mortar or online stores) offer good prices on high end gear. I've sold a lot (and bought a bit) on this site and many guys just roll gear. Again, thanks for the thread, OP. On another note, thanks ST3. I noted you mentioned audio technica earlier and I agree with you. Some good and resonable priced carts from them. I have a Thorens 160 tt in one of my kids system and I toyed with the AT cart, but went with a reasonably price Grado. I guess that's the fun of it. Trying a lot of gear until you find the fit. All good things to you, ST3 Agreed,I run the 440 from AT |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 26795689 United States 07/25/2013 07:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wow...not my usual fare, but music and audio stuff is a big part of our lives. We have to have music in all parts of our little house we restored. Through the years we've had vintage tube gear, as well as monster transistor stuff driving Martin Logan electrostatics. These days due to springy floors and space we've gone mostly digital. A 500 gig hard drive fed to squeezeboxes for easy access, and also the crazy good MOG service where I feel like I have the worlds largest music library at my fingertips. The living room system has been downsized to a chic but awesome sub sat 5.1 from orb audio, and our newly redone screened back porch has a well reviewed and surprisingly satisfying Vizio soundbars/subwoofer that is Bluetooth and can be directed to MOG via my iPad!! Quoting: littlemiracles :nerdalert: Just kidding.... I used to work in the home audio industry. However I no longer have the same level of interest in audio gear as I once did though. I guess it's nice to still know people in the field though should I ever revitalize my interest.... |
