The comet did not come by the inner solar system in the past and it will never do so again, it's on a one-time trajectory. And no, we're not part of the Sirius system as she suggests. Sirius has a proper motion of 1.2 arcseconds/year in declination and .546 arcseconds per year in right ascension (15 km/sec and 6.8 km/sec velocity relative to our solar system respectively). Since we're about 8.6 light years from the Sirius system, and since Sirius A and have a combined mass of nearly 3 timesSo the sun's mass, the escape velocity from the Sirius system at the distance of our sun is about 0.1 km/sec. In other words, our solar system is traveling many timeG too fast, even just in proper motion alone, relative to Sirius to be able to orbit it or be in a trinary configuration with it. Nania is a fool who promoted the Elenin BS back in the day. Different day, different comet, everything else is pretty much the same. Inertia doesn't cease to exist just because the comet breaks up, and the delta-V to reach the earth once the comet is at perihelion would be orders of magnitude too high for the velocity imparted to the fragments at break up to send the fragments this way. And please don't use the word "slingshot," the term implies a gravity assist, which does not happen with the sun relative to the planets in the solar system. For that you need another planet. |
