Successfully finding a lost item via dreaming about what happened to it?

I am looking for an item that is not lost so much as it is missing. It was not moved by me, and it is no longer in its usual spot.

I wouldn't assume the dream was fact, as certainly my waking thoughts about what happened may influence the dream. But I thought perhaps if I tried to dream about it, I may remember something about what happened that I may have in my subconscious mind.
