I Bring you...Butterfly DOOM...
The number of monarch butterflies that completed an annual migration to their winter home in a Mexican forest sank this year to its lowest level in at least two decades, due mostly to extreme weather and changed farming practices in North America, the Mexican government and a conservation alliance reported on Wednesday....

But an equally alarming source of the decline, both Mr. Taylor and Mr. Vidal said, is the explosive increase in American farmland planted in soybean and corn genetically modified to tolerate herbicides.

The American Midwest’s corn belt is a critical feeding ground for monarchs, which once found a ready source of milkweed growing between the rows of millions of acres of soybean and corn. But the ubiquitous use of herbicide-tolerant crops has enabled farmers to wipe out the milkweed, and with it much of the butterflies’ food supply

In their greed and arrogance, they may kill themselves as well. If memory serves, butterflies are a major source of pollination as well.

Re: I Bring you...Butterfly DOOM...
I have had an abundance of butterflies in my yard. I have many butterfly bushes and they devour them as well as hummingbirds! My father was a bee keeper, he has since passed, but it makes me sad that I do not see any bees. GOD help us. If only folks knew how very important these little things are to us and our food supply.
If you break my wings, I will just find a cloud and learn to fly again. The Lord will catch you when you fall or teach you to fly! May the footprints I leave lead you to BELIEVE.

My mind is buzzing with possible reasons for this, but i do smell a roach. I guess i'll let it fly for now, or it mite tick some of you off.
Goodnight, hope the bedbugs don't bite.

jump

Amusing musing
Amazing mazing
Confusing fusion
Of butterfly doom

In the Midwest
I find myself
I must confess
Monarchs are less

Though the milkweed
In my backyard
Grows with much greed
Both near and far

I know other species
Seem to be doing well
There's a little blue tease
I know not name to tell :/

If ladybug habitats had not been destroyed and other invasive ladybug species not been introduced by us to try to fix our first fuck up, there would be enough of them around to control aphid blooms and herbicides wouldn't have become necessary to control them :/

I hate to be negative, but this is beyond repairing. You can't stop GMO plants now. The genie cannot be put back in the bottle...
