Watdhel User ID: 44111583 United States 07/26/2013 11:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My question is: Do those cars go that fast off the show room floor? Most everything I've driven in the past 10 years has a governor and once you hit 110 that's it, no more, the engine throttles down and your stuck at 110. I know you can buy the Hypertech chips and such & reprogram your computer but it voids your warranty. Also- Race cars do blow up sometimes but they are running much more volatile fuel. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1364318 United States 07/26/2013 11:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So you know he was speeding big time from two videos. The one from the ambulance chasing reporter where Hasting's car blew the red light, now this. If his accelerator was stuck he never would have been able to make a 90 degree intersection turn. Yet, when the ambulance chasing reporter left his parking spot where he filmed the red light being blown he had to make at least one turn to reach the final destination of the accident. If this is correct, that means Hastings had control of the breaks, the steering and the acceleration. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 42377856 United States 07/26/2013 11:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ... Quoting: duFontaine. The first thing I noticed was that the TAIL END of his car was lit up light a Christmas tree as he sped past the camera. Watch. Stop at :14 sec - :15sec. It does look like the braking lamps are illuminated... If the throttle is frozen at 100% the transmission stuck in top gear, and the ABS forced into "slip mode" you can put both feet on the break peddle and it will not slow the vehicle at all... There really is only one way this can end... There's no way he can be stomping the brakes and doing 100+, and yet the video shows both. Maybe some of you assume that if something like this happened to you, you'd simply turn off the ignition or take it out of gear, but all of these systems are computer controlled. As for the ignition, there is a command prompt to disable it in nearly all VCM/ECM systems, it allows a owner to remote start an engine, its in the software, even if you don't have that feature. Transmissions can be locked in gear, overdrive is often controlled by an actuator, electronic actuators solenoid or servos, controlled by a computer... ABS, also a computer controlled system... It can be done, is that what happened here? If it was, you will never be able to prove it.... By design. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 42377856 United States 07/26/2013 11:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Throttle position is simply an electronic sensor reading, you can with proper connection and a laptop with the correct software interface access all of these systems, and you'd be alarmed if you see what can be done with them. Cars with sat systems, most of it can be done remotely. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 12398277 United States 07/27/2013 12:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hackers have found out how to remotely take control of your car. Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek will show off their car hacks at this years DefCon 21 on Friday, August 2, in Las Vegas. Apparently, the two have figured out how to hack into the Electronic Control Units (ECUs) — internal computers — in a Toyota Prius and Ford Escape. They have demonstrated that they can take complete remote control of the vehicle — the breaks, the gas, the stearing wheel, even the radio and air conditioning. [link to www.businessinsider.com] |

You really dont ever want to be targeted this way, and if for some reason you are, the only conclusion there can ever be is that you were simply the victim of a tragic accident, or blamed for failure to control your vehicle for any reason that fits. Just another of thousands of annual statistics.... |

Quoting: N3m3s1s [link to www.businessinsider.com] I've raced cars and will tell you, a stuck accelerator is a death sentence. No way to control a speeding out of control car. But you would surely see the brake lights as the driver stomped the pedal, que no? See any brake lights in the new Hastings vid? Serious question. I don't see the rear lights *change* (get brighter or dimmer). Either he had the brake pedal pushed the whole time, or it was never pushed at all. The first thing I noticed was that the TAIL END of his car was lit up light a Christmas tree as he sped past the camera. Watch. Stop at :14 sec - :15sec. It does look like the braking lamps are illuminated... Meh, not really. |
