The hive was 3 feet wide x 5 feet tall out in a shed behind their property. Now unless there's something I don't understand about this story, wouldn't it seem like people would not allow a hive to get that large anywhere on their property? Hell, I get scared if even one bee is buzzing around or a couple of wasps start to build a nest on my porch . . . so you have to wonder why this couple allowed that hive to get that big. From the photo, it appears to be on a wall.

Here's a photo of the hive . . . and omg, those horses were precious, what a shame, so sad!

Re: Thousands Of Bees Attack Texas Couple, Kill Horses
I've always been terrified of bees. I think the movie My Girl has something to do with it. But I've only been stung once (knock on wood). I was young and the damn thing chased me down my driveway, through my garage and into the house. I was just standing there when it first went after me. I wasn't near a flower, didn't have food or anything. I loathe them. I know they're essential to the ecosystem but whenever I hear that they're dying off, part of me couldn't care less. Those poor little ponies and couple. But whenever I hear the term Africanized, I automatically remember the Michael Moore documentary. Isn't that just a term to scare people? I remember when I was growing up they'd talk about the killer bees but nothing really ever came of it.

What a terrifying experience for the woman.
Those poor horses :(

A man died a few weeks ago from African killer bees, also in Texas. A woman and her daughter tried to help him and they were also stung. The older woman was seriously injured.

A Texas man was stung to death after he drove his tractor into a pile of wood that concealed a hive of 40,000 "killer bees," authorities and family members said Sunday.

Obozo should go home to Kenya and take those bees back with him.

Well, the article says:
Kristen Beauregard had noticed bees near her home and had tried in vain to get rid of them.

The bees would fly in and out of a shed in the backyard of the rental property on Miller Lane, but she had no idea of the danger that was buzzing inside.

Now does that mean they NEVER went into the shed?
What does she mean by "tried in vain to get rid of them?

Not saying this is their fault per se, but geez, how could they not have known the size of that hive?

Also, I find it VERY troubling that it says the vet did not get there until 10 pm. WTH?!!!

The article said she saw some bees flying inside and outside the shed but had no idea what was going on inside of it. So she didn't know. They also said it was a rental property. Maybe they didn't have access to the shed.

If they knew of the existence of that hive and how very large it was, they should have taken some measures to call in professionals. If they weren't concerned about their own safety, they should have been concerned about their animals. I am NOT saying they did not take care of their animals, but hives that large pose a significant danger.

Yes. Watched a documentary on them once. It is frightening. I would never live in the southwest just for that reason alone. I believe they were found as far north as Colorado. This was a few years ago.

When the bees go, that's it for us as well. Even if you gave every human on the planet a little paintbrush and told them to go out and spread the pollen around, they couldn't do it. No bees, no pollination, there goes our food supply.
