Did you follow up your application by calling the employers and letting them know you were interested, therefore showing some initiative which is a quality most employers look for?

Its time to go entrepreneur.

Find a need and fill it.

One day at the Post Office, a lady who spoke no English came up to me with a five gallon bucket of tamales.

Admiring her enterprise since she looked to be about 80, I bought a dozen tamales for $7.

Later, I saw her at another Post Office selling tamales.

Based on sales I saw, she was making about $200/day cooking tamales and selling them like that. She did not appear to even own a car.

Oh yeah, I walked up and said on our second meeting, "No hay carne en los tamales. Y hay no mas de siete tamales. Usted no puede contar!" (There was no meat in the tamales. And there were only seven. You cannot count!)

So she may not have followup sales, but you gotta admire the chutzpah!

So you can mow lawns, wash cars, babysit, walk dogs, paint barns, or whatever people need.

I know that feeling, back in 2009 it actually drove my confidence into the ground because I couldn't handle the rejection everyday for months. If I were you, i'd ask friends/colleagues if they have any jobs you can do! I still have never had a real job from the built of fear of rejection but don't be like me, keep trying but don't try too hard!

You should contact a Temp Service like Kelly Services for help...There maybe other Temp agencies in your area. Once you have some experience in your belt you maybe able to find a job on your own, but for the time being accept a little help to get your foot in the door while you are waiting for that special job.

No, they don't hate it. They take notice. A friend runs a pizza shop and if an applicant comes back in to check the status of their application, the manager-on-duty puts a sticky-note on the application telling him to call that person.

If you have never had a job you might have to take an unskilled job just to get "some" experience on the clock.

This can be anything from working at a fast food business, restaurant, landscaping business as a helper.

If you are a recent college graduate then ask the school for help. You paid for the service for them to help you locate a job after graduation.

If you are applying in person for the job and are not getting the job....step back and look at your appearance and ask yourself "Would I hire me?" If not, "Why not?"

You may need to invest in a hair cut or a pair of new shoes.

Also the interview..."What are you doing wrong?" You might want to look online at some interviews to see how to conduct yourself during the interview.

Remember you are trying to "Sell yourself to them because they are Buying the Product-- You."

AC, not really mad. I still admired her. She was not sitting on her butt waiting for someone else to feed her.

They were the worst tamales ever. All masa, no meat.

Yeah, I told her, but she showed no emotion. She knew they were crap tamales and that she was conning the customers.

Naw, temp agencies lay you off too fast so that if you're in a right to work area, they can let you go with no reason and just say that it was due to lack of work. Temp agencies cannot keep people working for the long term.

Re: I've applied literally everywhere in my town and nothing
Do you have any work experience OP?
How much education do you have?

Different TEMP agencies hire for different types of jobs. You will have to call around to find out which ones do what in your area. Some do labor work and deal mostly with industries while others do secretarial pool work. Then there are those that hire strictly for day labor jobs. If you are looking more for professional jobs there are those types too, but generally they are for Short Term positions. If the company likes you they have the option to hire you for longer term.

Temp jobs are great for students because it gives you a diversified range of jobs to choose from. Once you work a job for the temp agency and you do what is expected of you they will call you back for better jobs. NOTE: The first job you are given will most likely be a TEST job to see if you are reliable and serious about working.

Few employers in today's time will even take a follow-up call and couldn't care less about that kind of initiative. Those days are over.
