as an east coaster - personally i'd follow the power lines away from populated lands until i'm in the middle of nowhere. staying away from roads and highways would be key at first.

then i'd follow my compass west.

then i'd probably die because i have no food or water saved up for that journey.

depends on the definition at that time of 'devastation' - if there are human survivors I wouldn't go anywhere near there.

I would rethink that. But you can do what you want. If you see a devestation occur on the southeast USA and southwest USA be very careful to go back even to get your coat or your stuff let alone other stuff from other people. Let no one go back to get there stuff. I wouldn't return. Something not good is on the horizon.
