Detroit and Flint being two of the cities, no shock there!

Now a burger and fry will be 32 bucks!

bump 5 stars!

No it wont. Any high school economics text can explain why not. So should your common sense. No one will pay that for a fast food burger when a restaurant burger is twelve bucks and ground beef is less than that. .

What will happen is a fast food owner will make lesprofit. She wont close the business as long as she makes some profit. There is no point at which free money is too much bother to collect.

People who say everything will be unaffordable if we pay folks whatbthey need to live are silly alarmist shills.

SEIU Man: If McDonald’s Strikers Don’t Get What They Want, They May Contaminate the Food

political correctness is a doctrine.... fostered by a delusional, illogical minority...... and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media; which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

~~snip~~

All of you morons screaming about how it is unrealistic of them to ask that much money for a FULL TIME JOB, you try living on 7.50 an hour and see how comfortable your life is. People HAVE to work these jobs, there is NOTHING else. Just because you happened to be lucky and get a great job, doesn't mean that everyone was that lucky.

Federal minimum wage should be AT LEAST that.

Frack you and the luck you rode in on, Anonymous Cocksucker.

i didn't get "lucky". I was born to a hippy mother and an alcoholic father who wouldn't get clean and hold a job. I gew up embarassed by the fact that we got food stamps. I busted my ass working crap jobs in retail through college - often 2 at a time, and that was after serving a tour in the Army to earn a College Fund. I did combat time - I sure as hell earned my BSEE.

Then I went back into the service and did another tour. I saw combat, again...and earned my masters - I finished writing my thesis "in my free time" while serving in a little place called Lasker Gha, in kandahar Province.

Then, I came home and busted my ass another 3 years in the civilian world doing on-call slave schedule and lots of travel to earn the title "Senior Engineer", and another 5 years dealing with "problem customers" to earn the position of "Principal Engineer".

So, 20 years later, I think I've earned the right to say "My money is my own. Fuck off and die if you don't like that".

So there it is - from "welfare baby" to "Principal Engineer"...not bad, huh?

Well done. From another BSEE who did it the easier (but still hard) way. There is no easy way. cheers

Maybe there's some wiggle room there. Maybe not. But rather than put up with paying $15 an hour, why not fire all the workers, sell back the franchise to McDonald's corp., and reopen your store as Fred's Hamburgers. Hire nonunion labor.

The business owner isn't entirely helpless here. The things is, you learn this the hard way. How much can you push? Do you want to find out?

Anyone who thinks a fast food worker should make double min wage...doesn't understand even the basics of economics, and why that just can't happen.

 Quoting: *Evan

Economics isnt about "should". Economic theory says so long as the people and corporations who own fast food joints get a profit, they will pay whatever costs they have to pay to keep getting that profit. If the cost of beef or paper or burger flippers goes up, profit goes down, but the store stays open and prices stay the same.

The pass of economics say if fast food workers demand and get fifteen dollars an hour it is because they got off their dull sedes and helped the market make a needed fluctuation.

The price of anything is a function of supply and demand for thst thing, whether it is an Apple, a pencil or an hour of someones time. Neoclassical economics (the "basic economics" you learn in highschool or freshman year in college) procesada to be "positivist" rather than "normative" which means its about what is and how it really works and not at all about what "should be".

Oh my goodness! Thats like saying if I dont get what I want I will pool in the toilet. The food is contaminated. The food is contamination.

Dont pass along more more about the disgusting practices of McDonald's employees. We all know. They spit on the grill. They put your burger on their June. They do revolting things. They always have. Adolescent rite of passage.

Now think this through. What will happen when McDonald's workers get paid fifteen dollars an hour? Will the calibre of people working there go up or Down? Hmmm? Will the "fuck you, world" attitude get better or worse?

Think outside the "poor people are meant to be screwed" box and wonder whatbwill happen.

When did you last eat at "freds burgers"? People dont pay big bucks for a mcdonalds restaurant because the food is so good. They pay for the brand. They pay for the advrtising and public relations, for the classown and the arches. They even locate restarants on either side of the same street because one advertises the brand for the other.
