I got to speak with an economics guru back in the beginning of this nuclear disaster. He said Tokyo can not be lost or else the global economy drops off a cliff. Being the 3rd largest financial center in the world. If people abandoned Tokyo it would be similar to New York City being evacuated. All about money. The global economy is highly specialised. Low cost manufacturing out East, energy from the ME (there is a reason why the ME has sunk intio such extreme ignorance as it has), and the shoppers reside in the West. Japan is an integral part of the Eastern factory economy. |

I think Fukushima already had a melt down from a network attack. The corium reached the water table and created the mega earthquake by exploding deep in a fault line. If you noticed the earthquakes, they weren't normal at all. No primary wave like regular earthquakes. More like a nuclear bomb but the signature was longer. |

The government is on the hook for the liability and expense to clean up nationwide contamination. They can't even clean up their own messes. Hanford springs to mind.. We're one Magnitude 9 or higher earthquake away from multiple Fukushimas in other countries. We're potentially one asteroid impact away from multiple Fukushima's in other countries. We're potentially one bubonic plague-style pandemic away from multiple Fukushima's in other countries. We're potentially one war away from multiple Fukushima's in other countries. [link to nuclearinfo.net] Each red dot on the map is a potential Fukushima waiting to happen. Besides the threat of nukular meltdown, EVERY year, EACH of those red dots on the map above generates at least 25 tons of nuclear waste per year - nuclear waste which will remain hazardous for tens or even hundreds of thousands of years and needs to be stored and monitored permanently. It will still be deadly after the "advanced" civilisation which created it has long since fallen. We've bent our future generations over the prison bunk and violently arse-raped them so we don't have to develop safe forms of mass power generation which may or may not threaten the established systems. |

I suppose that is possible, since I don't know all of the details. The old age of the tech at fuku might preclude remote control manipulation of the systems. There are many manual operations. Wow, Voltaic, that is a possibility which had never occurred to me (I tend to play "what if?" when presented with a situation like this) While something like that could never happen in the U.S., in Japan the Gov't has such control over every facet of life that they could squelch any information they don't want known, no matter how dire. At least for awhile, until gradually some information begins to be leaked by witnesses (which may be what has happened here). One question: do you remember where the "epicenter" of the earthquake was? Would that tend to support your suspicion? (Well, I guess that was two questions. Sorry.)
