sleep paralysis
I have been suffering on and off from sleep paralyst since the age of 18, I am now 46. The first time was while sleeping in a couch. I woke up late in the night to find I could not move, so I close my eyes and this was even more terrifying. I could hear unrecognized voices, couldn't even make out or decipher anything as they were like whispers, then I noticed there was more than one presence in the room and it felt evil. What it was i do not know but I tried opening my eyers and could make out a couple of figures standing by trying to pull me off. tried to fight it but could not do anything.

through the years I have experienced them some intense others mild. The worse one was one night in my apt I went to sleep as usual. 10 minutes later I was fallinig into that deep sleep. and I was startled I open my eyes and could not moved then the weirdest thing happen I felt someone touching my neck and again that evil presence in the room. This time I fought back until it went away. Once I could move my body the sensation it left me was that of fear and my heart rate was like someone on a speeding car.

The incidents still occur and I was afraid to talk until my brother, sister and mother confirmed they have also experience the same terrifying experience as I did. It doesnt't make me feel any better but at least I know now I am not alone. I wish it would stop because it always catches me off guard and when I do wake up I feel drained of all my energy.

I have been getting sleep paralysis since late 2011. I even wrote about something similar about the sleep paralysis today Thread: Keep waking up outside my body

I have talked to family members about this and I am the only one in my family to experience this. I know what you mean about the evil presence because I experience that alot but at the same time I experience total calmness and comfortness. Most of the dark figures I see tend to be evil but some of them just talk to me and ask me stuff like "Hey Mark are you waking up soon" I will then say "who is that" and they will reply to me with a name like Kevin or something like that. Its crazy.

Re: sleep paralysis
I've experienced this and it was awful. I thought I was cursed or being damned. Terrifying! I too was afraid to mention it to anyone.

I think its due to stress /anxiety. Way back when it was happening to me a lot, I ended up in therapy and on ativan. Haven't taken it for years, but it seems it was what I needed to get over it, if you will.

I don't know of any proven natural cures - sorry! You could try things like Valerian and skull cap though.

Re: sleep paralysis
Sleep paralysis happens when you are in a deep state of sleep.

But you might say its a trance because you are aware.

Basically you brain waves have changed and your body is shut down because its asleep.

If you can maintain consciousness in that state you may be able to Astral Project.

Have you ever had the feeling of Leaving your body and Flying ?

Re: sleep paralysis
first time it happened to me i was having dream where i was arguing the existence of God with a friend of mine. She said, "i know there is a God because i've felt him."

I argued that i have never felt him. I remember saying if there is a God, i'd like to feel his presence. At that very point i got that sinking feeling and wind rushing the ears sensation. It woke me immediately, however i couldn't move.

It was a such a profound moment. I was raised Catholic but never gave religion much thought after i was able to make my own decisions. That experience changed my thinking like nothing ever has. For months after, i couldn't stop thinking about what happened that night. Still not a church goer, but i am not about to doubt the existence of a higher power any longer.

Years later i started having the experiences almost weekly. These instances were much more terrifying and seemed to happen every week. The morning after always leaves me curious and fearful about what is bringing on these strange episodes.

I thought i was cracking up for a while until i googled this phenomenon. Strangely enough, this google search is what lead me to this site.
