Sandy Hook resident Robert Hoagland missing; possibly connected to case

Finally, an update! But one that adds even more mystery to an already baffling case:

"NEWTOWN -- Lori Hoagland returned from a 17-day trip to Turkey early July 29, landing at JFK Airport in New York City expecting to be greeted in the terminal by her husband, Robert, only to find he had either forgotten or been delayed.

She called him numerous times and texted him, but got no answer.

At first, she said, she was not too worried. She figured he was busy and simply had a mix-up about her itinerary. Once home, though, the culinary teacher at Newtown High School started to become more frantic.

Robert Hoagland, 50, had not shown up for his job at a Bridgeport law firm.

Lori Hoagland's Mini Cooper, the car he'd been driving, was at their Glen Road home. So were his cellphone, his wallet and even the shoes he usually wore, she said."

Turkey? 17 days? My mind goes to CIA, but that's just me. At any rate, his disappearance is weird enough on its own.

He's an assessor (and apparently also working as such for a law firm--which ups the ante quite a bit).

Was Sandy Hook School, along with the area around it, heavily contaminated? Did Robert, as an assessor, know this, and was he in a position to come between those responsible, and any citizens considering lawsuits?

The plot thickens.

Delayed to the point that he did not show up so how did she get home? I would assume he was her ride. If he forgot when was the last time she spoke with him to confirm her arrival? Most people touch base the night before.

Was not worried about it until she got home. He had not shown up for work? Had she not spoken to him for the last 17 days?

No idea about the living arrangements, but it said Max left in a "family car," so if he lived on his own, you would think he'd have his own car. But, who knows.

The whole thing was such an irrelevant point though...telling us about a neighbour showing them a new puppy? Too many little intricate details that do not get to the heart of anything. Sign of BS imo.

The article makes me wonder what students do in journalism school. Actually, do journalism schools still exist? Has anyone else noticed that newspaper writing is horrible? Is it on purpose? If the job of the modern-day journalis to make an event more confusing and jumbled, then I stand corrected; in that case, they're doing fine work.

Yup. All this information is just a bunch of garbled junk. The police release a photo with no other information other than he was missing.

Now we find out more details. Too late now. If they would have given more info there might have been witnesses. Just odd how they give as little info as possible and then suddenly have a bunch of specific NONRELAVENT information out the wazoo.

Good point...so either he stayed at a friend's or worked an overnight shift or was otherwise gone, or something's wrong with the story in that his mother didn't contact him when Robert didn't show up at the airport. You'd think the son would be the next person to be called, after the dad.

Isn't it odd that the first story about this, and the one that was out there until yesterday, said the LAST time he was seen was at the gas station? Yet, according to the article from yesterday, he went home after going to the gas station.

Yeah. Plain old bad writing. Whoever wrote it was probably the person who wrote the first one, and had their mind set on the concept of him disappearing straight after the gas station sighting (as I did until now).

Now we know that apparently ate bagels, played Scrabble, mowed the lawn, and then disappeared.

Who brought the puppy? Are they a suspect?

I mean, it's been less than three weeks, and he's just posing, you know, happy shots of Amsterdam and crap. I don't know. Messed up world. Maybe they know something we don't.

Why did they say he was last seen at the Mobile Gas bar. That's not where he was last seen. It's like they don't want anyone to find this guy when they leave false statements like that. Someone stopped by to show him a puppy? That sounds too made up. He was playing scrabble at home on the computer? Scrabble was invented by someone from Newtown. It's starting to sound like another Sandy Hoax.

Rumor in Newtown...one son heavily into drugs and taking household possessions to buy drugs. Obviously, Robert wasn't happy with this situation and supposedly confronted son and dealer. We are all sick...and hoping this isn't true. Praying he just went into hiding or ran off with another woman.

I think that town must be like the Stepford Wives town.

That's what I kept saying back in December and January- that the entire town interviewed, minus one or two people, acted like the Stepford Wives. Really, really creepy. Although, the coroner's comment "It's a wonderful thing!!!!!" took the cake, in my eyes.........these people are frightening. I'll make sure to avoid this town in my travels!
