Too bad none of the neighbors saw the vehicle that came and took him away. Must have been in the middle of the night. Too bad Max wasn't there that afternoon evening and all night.

was his volks golf silver or was it red?

At the Newtown home invasion (the one on Berkshire rd) said the color was silver but changed it to dark.

No wonder no cases are ever solved in Newtown

They're all color blind

Media reports said until now it was red; the police audio says gray. The family (or whoever is posting on their behalf) says silver.

There is likely also a Volvo--never mentioned in the press--and that Volvo was missing at the time Mrs. Hoagland first alerted the Newtown Police. However, she told them it might be in the shop.

...

Gah! You guys...

I love a conspiracy as much as the next nut, but I have family in Newtown (Sandy Hook).

It's a SMALL, New England town. Everyone pretty much knows EVERYONE. There are so few restaurants that, if you EVER go out, you would meet everyone in town within 6 months.

For this reason, correlations like the one mentioned by the OP fall under the category of, "Duh!" It simply can't be helped, particularly if your have or work with children. The schools are MAJOR social hubs in this small area, for kids and adults alike.

Oh! So that explains why she does not have a consistent timeline.
That must explain why the cops would call her about her son driving a car she owns and she allows him to have his ass thrown in jail. Yeah small towns are known for that.
She let's him sit in jail for 2 weeks. Nice, yeah that's small town for ya.

This small town chick was out of the country for 17 days and the day she comes back she cannot so she texts her husband and asks somebody from his work to check her house but she never bothers to call her son WHO LIVES WITH THEM to find out what is going on?

Yeah maybe I should re-learn my small town perspective.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32909022

She was obviously trying to avoid mentioning Max because he was in jail- embarrassing to bring that up in her public statements. Obviously she knew of what Mac had told the police and probably visited him as well but again is not going to openly flaunt that her son misbehaved and was in jail and couldn't pick her up at the airport either. That's obvious and shouldn't t even have to be mentioned
What I wonder is, have the police searched the woods where Max was arrested. Seems like Max was pretty quick to volunteer to the police that he was only there for drugs and prostitution. Wouldn't want them to get the idea of murder would he.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 41409089

When she was sitting at the airport waiting, Max would not have been in jail yet. So the question remains, why didn't she call her house or her son?

Don't you get the feeling that the one who wrote the article is lurking here trying to tighten up the loose ends.

Our local concerned parent who stumbled upon the site that kept referring to her son...and his knowledge of Mrs. Hoagy...and he was going to ask at school...and was sure of the drug issue...and loved to type 3 dots in paragraphs...seems to have lost interest...or is missing...

According to the family (if indeed that is they posting on the HelpUs Find Hoagy/Hoagie FB page), the Golf is silver.

Bridgeport police spokesman William Kaempffer said the golf was red:

[link to www.ctpost.com]

However, police running the plates that night--before Max's arrest--listed it as gray.

In the audio, Newtown Police had run the plates already, and dispatch says, "I'll run it one more time." He comes back with, "Actually, there was a hit ten minutes ago." Something to that effect.

The timing of that is almost as amazing as Max's deciding to get himself arrested on unrelated charges the day of his dad's disappearance.

Why on earth would they hold a kid in jail for 16 days for trespassing?

Well he was in his car near those signs......lol. Now if he had gotten out of the car and actually started really trespassing I am pretty sure he would still be in jail.

The middle son has decided to post a plea on FB to asking ppl to help find his dad.

I just don't get it. Robert has been missing well over a month. Now it almost seems that in response to public skepticism, ppl are making a show of searching for the poor guy.

A man went missing about an hour or so away from me a few months ago. His family wasted no time in putting up fliers in my city which isn't right next door. I saw them when I drove to work. Those were up probably within two days of his going missing.

"Max was the last person to see his father at the family home."

Actually the neighbor was, according to the earlier stories--because she saw the exchange between Robert and Max, saw Max drive away, and saw Robert resume mowing.

"A neighbor saw him in the yard between 10 and 11 a.m. and heard Max tell his father he was leaving for a few hours, Lori Hoagland said."

Fishy.

Either the neighbor was standing close by, and would have been noticed by Robert and therefore become part of the conversation, or the neighbor was, what--standing a long ways away, but heard them yelling at the top of their lungs?

Possible, but sounds wrong. If you hear someone clearly enough to know they said they're leaving for a few hours, you probably don't just creepily watch this and then walk away with the puppy without saying anything. Where was the neighbor that she heard this exchange? Isn't it more likely the neighbor was the last to speak with Robert? Sadly, the neighbor that has now likely passed away?

"We just need to know," she said. "We're hoping for the best, but we want some resolution and closure."

I'm sorry, but I can't help it. I don't long for resolution and closure if my loved one has gone missing only four weeks earlier. At that point I'm going to still hope like hell for finding them alive. If years passed, then and only then would I say "I'm hoping for the best, but I want some resolution and closure." Good heavens, there's no rush for establishing death--so you can have closure--only four weeks into the thing.

I dunno. Maybe the media is just doing a crappy job of reporting. But that statement is just ridiculous--and frankly, a little crass.

I just wonder if maybe there really is a Volvo, and it's still missing. The police audio refers to a Volvo which the family thinks might be in the shop--unless possibly this was a mistaken reference to the VW Golf. But I believe, in the audio, they're looking for the Volvo after they've already arrested Max in the Golf.

Okay this is getting pathetic.

Article starts

"Robert Hoagland's Labor Day tradition was cooking a special-recipe clam chowder for family and friends.

On Monday, Lori Hoagland compiled the ingredients in her husband's place.

"It wasn't as good as his ... but I made it in his honor," said Lori Hoagland, a culinary teacher at Newtown High School for the last three years.

Robert "Hoagy'' Hoagland vanished from the family's Glen Road home 38 days ago. He was last seen mowing the lawn.

Wow they really do read GLP. They are filling in the gaps based on what we say and putting it in the form of an article/story.

I like this

"A neighbor saw him in the yard between 10 and 11 a.m. and heard Max tell his father he was leaving for a few hours, Lori Hoagland said."

Funny Lori did not say that right away. Not until we pointed out how she never mentioned that.

But now here story includes the embarrassment of Max

The couple were struggling with some issues related to their son, who had been in trouble with the law.

Max Hoagland was arrested on a trespass charge in Bridgeport the evening after his father disappeared. Max told police he was looking to buy drugs.

"It was definitely a challenging situation, but not one so desperate that he'd just leave," Lori Hoagland said, adding she and her husband were "completely in tandem'' about how to help their son."

Cute how they happen to mention these things now.

Well another fisking of an amateur writer. They have to quit with these human interest/tragedy stories.

News to me. The way they first wrote these articles, it made it seem like those items were found very early on, like the day Lori got home. Remember how they were saying his wallet, favourite shoes, etc. were all still at home? They never once indicated that they were missing for a period of time like two weeks!

" Max told police he was looking to buy drugs."

This always cracks me up. Why on earth would Max volunteer that?!

I am calling this a fake event. The color of the car?

Was Hoagland last seen at the gas bar or not?

ALL FAKE story writing. Why?

It's in the police audio (link in this thread).

While it's not absolutely confirmed that the person police are speaking to that night is puppy neighbor, they go to two residences in their search for information on Robert Hoagland that night--both of which are listed as the address of the same woman (and various members of her family. There is the family house, and an apartment--police go to both. The family house is near the Hoaglands. A search for that address brings up an obituary from August 7, listing her untimely death at age 54. An additional reason I think it may be puppy neighbor is that it seems, from the police conversation, that she herself (or at least someone in her family) may have called police offering information. Why she would know to offer information about Robert's disappearance, I don't know--could well be she was one of the first ppl Lori called in the neighborhood.

The only addresses police are going to that night in connection with the case are both hers, a female neighbor; the only person mentioned in news reports as having seen Robert that day (not counting Max) is a female neighbor.

So on July 29, Robert Hoagland goes missing; his son is arrested and held for two weeks. On August 7, the person who possibly saw him last at home, passes away at age 54. She is a Newtown postal worker. On August 15, another Newtown postal worker is arrested by--oddly, in my opinion--chasing her down on the exit 10 on-ramp. (Does that sound more like she was fleeing for her life? But anyway...)

And we mustn't forget the "home invasion."

7/29: Robert Hoagland, possible "ATV" witness, disappears
7/29: Girl connected to Hoagland dies in auto crash (7:45am)
7/29: Malloy releases rare update on Sandy Hook report
7/29: Max Hoagland arrested; held 16 days
7/29: Hoagland neighbor, possible witness, interviewed
8/7: Hoagland neighbor interviewed 7/29 passes away
8/13: Assault and possible murder at 31 Berkshire

8/15: Fatal crash on Brushy Hill; Officer Chapman assigned
8/15: Young niece of 31 Berkshire owner dies "unexpectedly"

With the exception of the Brushy Hill crash, all individuals on this list have a noteworthy connection to one--often more than one--other person on the list.

Hoagland is not officially missing until the 29th when Lori can't seem to reach him by text or phone after 4PM. Remember they said her flight was arriving early and she says that she landed at 4pm. Waited and was picked up by a cousin? I think. Arrived home around 7ish and then started to get worried. Then Max gets busted trespassing and buying drugs ( in an area known for prostitution, drugs and no trespassing signs...sorry that is really funny to me)at 9:05pm.

But we get a " have you seen this man" photo in a local paper on 7/31. So when did he go missing really? Last seen mowing the lawn by dead puppy neighbor does not cut it as an official reference unless there is a police report saying such a thing.

Re: Sandy Hook resident Robert Hoagland missing; possibly connected to case
"A couple of weeks later, Hoagland's wallet and the key to the family's Mini Cooper were found hidden in the bedroom."

Max had a prior arrest last year for shoplifting $600+ in chewing gum and condoms. Probably had a fetish with the ladies....and his parents probably told him to cut it out. Thus, he was quick to play the "i'm here to buy drugs" card.

Re: Sandy Hook resident Robert Hoagland missing; possibly connected to case
Sorry - disappearance date for Hoagland should read 7/28. Still confused by report that he was "last seen" at the gas station.

7/28: Robert Hoagland, possible "ATV" witness, disappears
7/29: Girl connected to Hoagland dies in auto crash (7:45am)
7/29: Malloy releases rare update on Sandy Hook report
7/29: Max Hoagland arrested; held 16 days
7/29: Hoagland neighbor, possible witness, interviewed
8/7: Hoagland neighbor interviewed 7/29 passes away
8/13: Assault and possible murder at 31 Berkshire
8/14: Postal worker Kelly McLean chased and arrested
8/15: Fatal crash on Brushy Hill; Officer Chapman assigned
8/15: Young niece of 31 Berkshire owner dies "unexpectedly"
8/18: Sam Hoagland (another son) leaves country

With the exception of the Brushy Hill crash, all individuals on this list have a noteworthy connection to one--often more than one--other person on the list.

That makes no sense. I don't get how you make that leap.

Dead puppy neighbour??? The puppy lady died? Is there a link or something to that story? Because if so, myohmy!
