Okay, for one, I'm not a landscaper. I'm a college graduate that also happens to be a certified arborist. I see that I'm making far more of a difference than a corporate lawyer in training. (of course corporate law is necessary, how else would companies fuck each other as well as us "plebians" (as you seem to think those of us who don't do your job are?))

How is depleting one resource (oil) different than depleting another (fur)?

Again, I am not even a lawyer in training... I am a scientist.

I am just pointing out that plant life will find a natural order whether you are there or not. Urban trees are not a vital component to the health of our environment.
I almost ended up in the same profession.

Regardless of how you've treated me, I still want to make it clear that you have a very respectable position. I also admire your passion on the subject... If only more people in the world cared this much.

I do care, very much.

BTW, the corporate law thing---"Big Oil is going to pay for my law school while I help them impact the environment less..."

It wasn't unfounded, just forgotten by all but me.

If you are truly trying to help the environment, good for you, but I can't help but doubt your motives, especially considering the above quote.

BTW, I didn't treat you badly, I never called you names, though I was called a "moron" on at least one occasion. I was here for debate.

How would you suggest paying for a law degree? And what better way than working by your enemy and trying to make it less evil.

Oh, wait, that wasn't Jesus, or was it?

Trust me, I am on your side. I am working to get myself in a position of power so that I can make a difference. We are all just pons... You have to rise above that to make grand changes. You'll vote for me some day.

I have to get some rest, but it has been fun...

Likewhise, it's 8:30 here...it's rare that I come across somebody on GLP that can go blow for blow with me without resorting to namecalling (too much). Thank you for an enjoyable discussion, I wish you the best in your endeavours...and I truly plan to further research your posuition, as I hope you will mine.

Goodnight, and I wish I was in Alaska as well...it seems like paradise to me (I love cold weather).

One day (probably when it's too late to correct the damage), we'll understand that the Earth needed the oil to sustain itself more than the humans did.

Re: Oil is the earths insulation
Oil will never come down in price. Consider a car engine. It has a specific capacity in which oil flows through to maintain a sustainable temperature to allow fluid operation. As you decrease the amount of oil below maximum capacity, the engines efficiency starts to drop. Once you remove all the oil from said engine, what happens. YUP you guessed it, it overheats.

This planet has a capacity in which we are steadily decreasing. Every nook and cranny below the earths surface is interconnected to allow the efficient production of said engine. Forget fossil fuels. The amount of oil running through this natural engine is being drained. the oil people know this, if you keep oil prices the same till it is drained, you no longer have the ability to profit from this empty well. they are simply maximizing their almighty dollar before the well runs dry. Why would you have reserves if the supply was limitless. why would you need to increase the cost of a product if the product is plentiful. if you acknowledge global warming than you acknowledge a limited supply of oil. the earths core needs this oil to keep the surface and atmosphere from boiling. if fossil fuels were present oil would be boiling up from every spot on the planet, think of all the living creatures over billions of years that have been consumed by the planet. There would be oil in every bucket of soil you dig from the ground.....to get back to the point.....it is limited, they know it, and they are starting to panic because soone or later there will be no oil to sell.

Re: Oil is the earths insulation
Once we run out, big brother will take over renewable energy demand.

It's simply a question of input vs output.

Oil takes little input, with high output.

As (public) technology advances, so will the ability to proces low input, high output renewable energy solutions.

but as most of us here forget, nothing comes from nothing. These things take time.

Thus creating a nasty creature that has grown in many of us, called monetary desire.

We pursue this in an infinite amount of justifiable, and unjustifiable ways.

Once the profiteering can no longer continue from oil, or necessity, and monetary desire, will catapult us into space and beyond with a much more intelligent, efficient way of traveling.

It will also continue to climb in price until of course it doesn't. And the next wave takes over, which will be sometime in the next 20 years, and many will lose lots of money.

And the smart ones will get richer.

And things will carry on. (albeit without the united states)

So in conclusion there is quite a lot left, and when we do run out, regardless of when, it is already abundantly clear(Once the fun of oil is gone) with what can be readily found and produced already, we will continue on.

A new time , with new corruption, new profiteering, etc etc.

Case closed.
