Night owls more likely to have Dark Triad of personality traits
Psychologists have found that people who are often described as "night owls" display more signs of narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathic tendencies than those who are "morning larks".
The study revealed that those with a darker personality score tended to say they functioned more effectively in the evening.
They also found that those who stayed up later tended to have a higher sense of entitlement and seemed to be more exploitative.
Previous research has suggested that people who thrive at night tend also to be more intelligent.
Combined with the other darker personality traits, this could be a dangerous mix.
Notorious leaders including Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin are among those who are known to have stayed up late at night and had displayed these dark personality traits.
However, there are some examples of night owls where these negative traits may be harder to spot.
President Barack Obama is reputed to a night owl ( he must be the exception of the rule, LOL)

Re: Night owls more likely to have Dark Triad of personality traits
I'm a night owl, and always have been. I love just basking in the silence after everyone's gone to bed. I find it to be extremely theraputic. As I sit in the darkened living room, with only the glow of a lamp light and my laptop, I relax in a way that I can't during the day. Noone talks to me, or asks me to do anything for them. Noone touches me. If all I do is read the headlines on GLP, then that's fine, but I have to get my GLP "fix". Any other night owls in here?

Oh yeah, one of my favorite times of the day..err..night, is to just sit here with my laptop in my living room and basque in the solitude of the night, and read all the threads from the late night glpers also....sometimes they are the best.

I'm with you OP! I never have been able to go to sleep at a "normal" time. I enjoy it though! Peace comes after 11PM

i'm a night owl too... even my indian zodiac sign is an owl

In the morning you are there at the sunrise: a luminous sphere slowly emerges from the darkness, and its brilliance eventually fills the whole of space. Dive into the light, as if you were diving into a sea of vibrating, throbbing life… You will gradually feel you are swimming in it, merging with it, breathing it, drinking it. Let yourself be absorbed in the brightness, until your worries and cares eventually dissolve in it.

You may as well be posting on my behalf. Cheers.

The Dark Side of Being a Night Owl

I was seriously creeped out by recent research that linked my particular sleep-wake habits (the fact that I’m a night owl) with some not-very-nice personality characteristics.
In a small study, Peter K. Jonason at University of Western Sydney and colleagues asked 263 college students about their morning vs. evening habits and preferences. Students were asked a second batch of questions designed to measure the strength of their narcissistic, psychopathic, and Machiavellianistic personality tendencies

“When you look at people who are night owls, we know that they are more prone to disease. Research shows they are more likely to be depressed and have immune dysfunction. They have a lower resistance to things like colds and get sick more often,” says Dr. Breus, who is a Diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine, a Fellow of The American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and author of The Sleep Doctor’s Diet Plan: Lose Weight Through Better Sleep.
“Night owls like to be up when everybody else is asleep and you could argue that there is some kind of antisocial quality to them,” he says.

Obama returns night-owl presidency
Barack Obama is bringing back the night-owl presidency.
With the metabolism of a White House set by its occupant, Obama's team is preparing for a return to long nights, heavy weekend shifts.
It’s a throwback to Bill Clinton’s cramming-for-an-exam style, a shift from George W. Bush’s early-bird routine.
Bush famously arrives at the Oval Office by dawn, leaves by 6 p.m. and goes to bed by 10 p.m. Dinners out are as rare as a lunar eclipse.
Obama, by contrast, stays up late. He holds conference calls with senior staff as late as 11 p.m., and often reads and writes past midnight.
