Yes this stealing of property for any number of reasons has to come to an end.. it is now at such a level that they are making it meaningless to keep on buying anything if it can be taken, with no recourse whatsoever by any number of "officials" "I know that the molecules in my body are traceable to phenomena in the cosmos. There is a lands rights issue here. I do not know how to screen save a web site, but this must be saved. Quoting: MJJW 35871922 [link to www.poconorecord.com] DOOMDOOMDOOMDOOM Ok. So they wanted to steal his property because he built a drainage ditch? I'm thinking it was rural when he bought it in 1990 and now the town has grown up to it and they are trying to find any code violation to get him out. That's what it looks like to me. And trying to create problems like the runaround he got when building his culvert driveway, doing his best to comply then having someone else tell him he was complying with wrong instructions. Can't he get disability? I guess white males don't qualify or something ... then he'd have the few dollars it would take to get his septic hooked up, then he could stop shitting in buckets. I'm no bleeding heart, but there's some sort of social failure here, when an old disabled guy who needs probably less than $2000 to bring his property up to acceptable standard cannot get it. Part of the reason is that everyone's stretched to the max paying taxes for big government programs, they don't have money for charity to a needy neighbor. This is of course a win for big government agenda. Sad. Maybe he should have gone down to Harrisburg or DC. |

Since I work in a Municipal office, I really see both sides of this one. I know nothing of this guy or his story, he sounds like he's probably got some big time mental issues, and being taken away from his home, despite what a dump it was, probably pushed him over. I hate the rules too, and I feel really bad for some of the people coming in, trying to comply, not having any money, etc. etc. But, you guys who are defending his right to live any way he wanted, if he's dumping his poop in the stream (and I have no idea if he was) and polluting your water and you and your kids get sick, how is that right? What's the answer, I don't know. Whatever it is, it's not going in and blowing people away with a gun. I don't know if "they" wanted his land, maybe they just wanted him to not pollute what he did have. Anyway, nothing will help the dead ones, or him, now. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 44519189 If he were dumping poop in the stream, they surely would have cited him for that. As it was, it seems they had to make up things to cite him for, they were desperately looking. They wanted him off that land, but darn it he was complying with requirements, although he could not simultaneously build his culvert driveway at two different heights to satisfy contradictory requirements. |

So as far as I'm concerned, the blood is on the hands of Rockne Newell and the people who stole his land... Goddamn that's sad... I agree. And I suspect that we'll be seeing more and more of these situations as the American people feel they are under attack by their own government. Our government, federal, state and even local municipalities are out of control, and I can't but help feel that we are rapidly approaching the point where people say "ENOUGH!" Quoting: Phennommennonn blight causes devaluation of property, health hazards - he had options. Again I mention.... I don't read anywhere that anyone other than one friend ever tried to help or direct him. Where were Christian support groups, senior citizen helpers, Meals On Wheels, anybody? I help people. Young people, older people, Black, White, Red, Yellow, Baptist, Pentecostal, Atheist. I don't get paid, but I am rewarded for it. A smile from some is worth more than jewels from others. If people had helped him to clean up and taught him about services to help him live better, wouldn't they have helped themselves and their property values while helping him? That's a nice concept . . . reminds me of an episode of Andy Griffith, when the old guy owed the city taxes and his place was a mess and the town got together and fixed it up and painted it . . . in an ideal community, that's how it should be. But this is America, 2013. This guy hardly seems like a small town's nice elderly guy who just needed some neighborly support. He had been in this dispute for 18 years! The story says he has been "unemployed for years due to an injury from a crash" ... HOW injured is he? Could he not work at all? The article says his property has "visibly cluttered items, including tires, cinderblocks and piles of lumber" ... the assumption would be that HE put them on the property and those things are ALL very heavy items. Says he's a scrap dealer and that requires a good degree of physical activity. So if he could do all that for the past many years, then he could probably have gotten a labor-related job. Read some of the comments at the end of the article - his neighbors know how filthy his place is. He appears to be a defiant old dude who does not give one damn about hygiene or polluting the land. NOw you think this guy should have gotten help from religious groups or senior citizen helpers (he would have been 41 when this dispute began) and maybe someone could have taught him about proper living - but likely not because he seemed to be very defiant about the entire matter. You help those who TRULY need help, and sometimes that's not altogether easy to know for sure, but the truth is, some people are just lazy and filthy and have no respect for this great planet. You got to be fucking kidding me... In this area are radioactive waste sites, a leaky nuclear plant, a rotting and decaying coal industry, a military gross polluter and Superfund site and the big fracking companies working everyday to be sure you have flammable tap water, a toxic morass of chemicals in almost the entire aquifer... now to be ruined for potentially generations to come.. NOT EVEN A MOUNTAIN OF HUMAN SHIT AND A RIVER OF PUSS on this man's property could begin to match the damage that has been done by the fully permitted groups listed above. The levels of cancer in a hundred and fifty mile range of this area are off the charts.. just look at all the highway bill board adds for cancer treatment in the area.. more then are advertising for restaurants. All from industrial gross polluters that are slipping money across the palms of local appointed mafia. I don't condone any loss of life.. but people are reaching a breaking point with this encroachment, theft and total control bullshit and this sort of thing is now to be expected. I'm sorry if I seem harsh, It's nothing personal against you.. People in that area move there for a reason.. not to be controlled, taxed and told what to do from cradle to grave.. they live in the sticks to get away.. and when the control freaks from the city start trying to push the agendas in the few places left in the North East where you have any chance at all in actually living your own life on your own terms.. then strong passion, emotions and even blowback is to be expected. This does not justify the violence, however don't scratch your head <no you Copperhead> and say, "We don't know what motivated the shooter!" How many other Americans (or Humans) are under this similar stress? Peace zakk says "they" stole his waterfront land I just saw this, and don't know the details, but I'm from the Poconos, and all of the little townships are run by crooks. I come from a family that settled that area, and who are land owners. They will fuck you out of your land. They took two access points to my parents property making their land basically worth nothing. With the shit that was going on in Middle Smithfield township I'm surprised something like this hasn't happened already. My dad was in a big article in the Pocono Record during his fight with the township a few years back. I have a piece of residential land, that was part of a Planned Residential Development, that was changed to a commercial zoning... Cool I own 3 acres of commercial... No! It's in the middle of the woods!!! They are fucking crooked as hell up there, which is why I moved to Texas 9 years ago. With all that said, shooting people is fucked up, and this is a sad story. |
