It has increased, because irradiation at the moment is higher then the initial explosions, and stable at extremely high levels...

OP, you might have a bit of dirt on the detector with a hot particle. Make sure it's clean and has no obvious dust. Clean carefully and check out the next 24 hours or so.

My detector has shown different readings since 3/11, but for the last few months it's showing low/normal compared to after the event. It's been trustworthy, though I'd like to have a backup.

Try cleaning your detector carefully and leave it in a different room. You can try outside, but protect it from the weather.
