I've already removed all of the carpet. All hardwood floors thruout, except for the basement of course, and main floor and second floor additions are not hard wood. Do I remove the tack strips? Will they automatically replace them, charge me for them?

WHY the hell would you put filthy, allergen producing carpet in a house with hardwood floors?! For areas that are not hardwood, you cut put in tile.

Carpeting should be outlawed.

Thank you for your opinion. I don't like hardwoork. Maybe one room, but not the whole house. And in the basement floor is concrete.

So, YOU don't like carpet, therefore it should be banned?

Carpet traps allergens and is not recommended for anyone with breathing problems. Hardwood floors are great, easy to dust mop. A few scatter rugs with low pile could accent things. Tile is the best for protection and cleaning ability.

You have a hard quote in writing?

Defiantly remove any damaged strips, but if it looks good you don’t have to pull it up. They most likely counted all new strips in the quote but they will reuse what’s there when they can.

If you got tack strip in your basement I would not pull it up unless damaged, less holes/weak points the better.

Also it means more holes in your wood floors when you pull the old and reinstall new.

Tack strip is about 25 bucks per 400 feet.

Enjoy the new carpet OP.
I'm only human, it's my biggest flaw.

We must all realize a sink a chair and a pillow are all luxuries of home and a soldiers helmet takes the place of all three.

Unless they are damaged or nonfunctional why bother? I would check with your installer's as well as this may increase the price of the job.

Seriously, you may want to rethink getting wall to wall carpeting.
Unless you don't have kids and/or pets.

Last time I had carpet installed I removed everything. The installer said I should have left the tack strips. So why do the extra work if they can use the old ones?

Agree with AC. We got rid of ALL carpet. Surely you saw all of the dust and dander (dead skin dust)that was under your old carpet. You're breathing that stuff in.

Be prepared for more. It accumulates quickly.

Re: So I'm getting all new carpet thruout my house. Do I remove the tack strips?
I just had new carpet put in 3 bedrooms, and it isn't so much the cost of the strips that gets ya, it's the labor charges to put the new ones in! If they aren't damaged, leave the old ones there.
