Last night we had a nearly perfect clear sky above the Netherlands.
In about an hour I saw about 10 small ones burning up and about three with a smoke tail.

I got up in the middle of the night and saw a couple from my window to the East. Looked at the stars and then shooting stars appeared.

Very pretty shooting stars and very bright they go so quickly maybe half a second at the most and they're gone.

I wonder if there will be more tonight?

How many days is this?

last night I drove and hour and a half north up to the mountains ( Mnt Pinos CA - 8000 feet elevation best place to see the stars in so CA ! ) ... took my 22 year old and 18 year old ... we were up all night and I think I saw at least 50 ! ... a few were so bright they lit up the entire night sky it was so awesome ! we were on our backs looking up on sleeping bags and just starred up into the wonder of it all! saw this large fireball that shook me to the core ! I have a little sleep deprivation right now from no sleep but wow was it worth it !

Wow, thanks for your report. The best one I've seen was about a week ago. Even though they peak at August 12, many sporadic Perseids can be seen for 10 days or more on either side of the peak date. We'll probably have a few stragglers reported next weekend, too. Peace.

Not over yet, hehe. I just saw two meteors through the foggy, murky, Smokey Mtn. smoke. I'd say as bright or brighter than Vega (which is the only star out I could identify). It's very soupy skies here tonight between electrical storms. Here's a recent 3D radar pic of a big one:

I've seen many meteors and showers over the years, usually by happenstance or from my local vantage-point (wherever that was). One time only (early '90's) did I travel to the Pocono Mtns. for the express reason of watching the Perseids with friends. We had a nice barbeque and set up cameras and were blessed with beautiful clear, dark, moonless skies. It's a memory I still cherish.

I'm attempting with this thread to spread the appreciation of these natural wonders to others. I'm overwhelmed by the awesome interest, especially folks like yourself and Rock Star Mommy who exposed their children to this type of experience. Our young people are being sucked into a ' virtual vortex' of video games and a mentally unhealthy false reality. Kids need to go camping, stargazing, hiking, etc. with their peers and elders to sense and grab hold of their true place in the Cosmos. Say NO to TV, junk food, spectator sports and obesity. Life's too precious to ignore the reality in favor of a fake 'death culture' which is foisted upon the youth.

Thank you. I got lucky.

I will look again during the night.

The sky should be clear.

Maybe I will have to wait longer to see them. Will try and see if I am lucky again.

I wonder if the astronauts in the International Space Station can see them?

Just a quick post, as I need to leave for work.

Last night my wife and I were kneeling on the bedroom floor in front of the window, so we could get a better look straight up at the meteors.

At 23:23 a man dressed all in black, with the hood of his coat up (It is Summer!) walks down the footpath, stopping at every house to look. He gets to our house and walk over to the gate at the side of the house and disappears in the shadows.

We both ran down stairs putting all the lights on as we went, and my wife pulled the front door open, he just ran away without even looking back.

I wonder if he will be back tonight?

Hi OP a big thanks for the thread!

Central UK here, saw at least 4 from my back garden last night, my boyfriend saw about 20 he said, but he was out longer than me. Still, great to see! The skies pretty much cleared up about ten o clock and i could see the constellations really clear for a change. Will be out tonight weather permitting.

Just went out and the best I saw was 3 in quick succession maybe 5 seconds it was quite nice.
They seemed to be all over the place. Some along the horizon to looking straight up. To the North and towards the East. Saw at least 10 bigger ones in 20 minutes which were quite noticeable but I am in the country.

Over 300 frames, and only 1 decent meteor photo! I saw about 4-5 fireballs but didn't catch any on the camera. This meteor was in the Pegasus Constellation at 1:00 AM 8/13/13 from southern cali

Saw a lot here in uk, REALY cool fire balls shooting across with the tail, then we saw a ufo or maybe not I'm not sure, it wasn't the same as all the rest we were watching it was a lot lower it just floated across the sky it was just like a very bright star lower than the plane we saw at same time, pure brilliant shining white light, cool no tail and didn't shoot across just floated

One really freaked me out though, it was really really bright then it DIMMED and carried on. I'm thinking the earth got in the way of the sun below the horizon or something.

Watched from the hammock with my 7 year old step-grand daughter last night. The following were her comments and questions:

I did not know they were planning a meteor shower tonight.

What is a meteor?

How fast are they flying?

Are they faster than a jet?

Do the rocks ever get tired of flying?

How do you know if they will stay in space and not come down to the ground?

Why are some faster than others?

Are there states on other planets?

Say only nice things about the mosquitoes and they probably won't bite you.

It was a great night..
