...Moar info with specifics: "AFSPC officials have devised modified operating modes for the Perimeter Acquisition Radar Characterization System at Cavalier Air Force Station, N.D., and for the space surveillance radar at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., which allows the discontinuation of AFSSS operations while still maintaining solid space situational awareness." [ link to www.af.mil] Quoting: Dr. Astro Well if it's gonna hit us it's gonna hit us anyway. No sense in spending a trillion dollars for slow doom. Yet the globalist bankers and their eternal wars for profit will suck that money up anyway and the federal workers who have had no raises for about 3 ? years will continue to downsize, do triple work and not get any raises. Yes that is what's going on. Not all agencies have contractors. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 44827095 What? The system isn't about monitoring for incoming asteroids or anything, it's for monitoring satellites in low earth orbit and alerting satellite operators when necessary to avoid collisions. The radar being shut down is not the only system that conducts the monitoring and the remaining systems will be picking up the slack while a replacement system is being built. The only catch is this; the replacement system is on hold pending review as well. Hopefully they'll get it back on track soon but in the meantime we're not flying blind, we're just flying with fewer sensors doing the monitoring of satellites and orbital debris. Quoting: Dr. Astro "Though part of a broader surveillance network, the VHF Space Fence is crucial because it can track objects up to 24,000 kilometers away." [ link to www.spacenews.com] Quoting: Anonymous Coward 45410123 Wow, thanks for proving my point. 24,000 km is fucking nothing on the scale of the solar system or even the earth-moon system. The moon is 16 times farther away. Even geosynchronous orbit is about 12,000 km farther away. What are you going to do with that, detect an asteroid when it gets within 0.06 LD? Well if it's going to hit that should leave you juuuuust enough time to bend over and kiss your ass goodbye.
