You are free to buy any plan you like, but who do you think will pay for your hospital bill if you are uninsured?

No you're not "Free" to buy any plan you like...that's total unadulterated BULLSHIT!!!

It says my unsubsidized premium would be $8,025/year.

I would get a government tax credit of up to $7,243 which means I would only pay $782 per year or $65.16 a month for a family of three.

That sounds pretty fantastic. What's the catch?!?!

Assuming your numbers are correct, the catch is
#1 some one else is paying for your healthcare
#2 you still have to come up with $8,025 to pay your premiums. You don't get your money back(Tax Credit) until you file your taxes.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 45130399

Ok, so if I understand this correctly, I will be paying $668.75 per month ($8,025/12) for health insurance but get roughly $7,243 back on a tax return or tax credit?

If that is the case, how would someone else be paying for my insurance?

What exactly is a "tax credit"?

Does anybody know how ObamaCare will work?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30004914

A tax credit is dollar for dollar, it is NOT an exemption.
So, you'll get back $7,243.00 (providing you don't owe them) at tax return time.

But, you'll be paying $8025.25 in all year long, so they get to use our (taxpayers) money and then reimburse you (from tax payers monies) later w/your tax credit.

Side Note: As far as the smoker's premium, ha, that's cherry-picking, what about alcoholics, drug-abusers, grossly obese? Sexually promiscuous? Will they pay a higher premium too? Are they going to test you? Everyone? Oh the rabbit hole is going deep on this.
 Quoting: InTheHood

Yes, they really are picking on smokers. Obesity is a worse problem I would think as well all those you listed above.

This is ridiculous Our un-subsidized would be $14,586.00 for the family of four, this is the minimum level of coverage, that is with the 70% coverage, IF I get subsidies I could pay $7,600. per year. The bottom line is I have no health insurance now and am just getting by on what I make, and meagerly saving. HOW THE FUCK am I supposed to find $633.33 per month to spend on health care PLUS pay the 'out of pocket' portion whenever I need to use it? REALLY???????????????
I know I will not be purchasing health care. I mean, it is nearly as much as my rent!

The catch is my husband who cannot pay his student loans because he has a 4 year degree plus flight training will be paying $10,000+ for his premium for a family of 5 non smoking. Lets throw $12000 out of pocket on top of that. We don't have it!!!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 43144788

Your husband and I are exactly the same. 4yr degree + flight training student loans. And now I pay $18000 per year in health insurance premiums not to mention the $8000 family deductible. So if you just count premiums + doctor visits + prescriptions for a family of 4 with ZERO health problems I pay over $20,000 per year.

Thanks Obama and Pelosi. I pray for your ruination!

The penalty/tax will be phased in from 2014 to 2016.

The minimum penalty/tax in 2016 will be $695 per person and up to 3-times that per family. After 2016, these
amounts will increase at the rate of inflation.

The minimum penalty/tax per person will start at $95 in 2014 (and then increase through 2016)

No family will ever pay more than 3X the per-person penalty, regardless of how many people are in the family.

The $695 per-person penalty is only for those who make between $9,500 and ~$37,000 per year. If you make less than ~$9.500, you're exempt. If you make more than ~$37,000, your penalty is calculated by the following formula...

The penalty is 2.5% of any household income above the level at which you are required to file a tax return. That level is currently $9,500 per person and $19,000 per couple. The penalty on any income above that is 2.5%. So the penalty can get expensive quickly if you make a lot of money.

However, the penalty can never be more than the cost of a "Bronze" heath insurance plan purchased through one of the state "exchanges" that will be created as part of Obamacare. The CBO estimates that these policies will cost $4,500-$5,000 per person and $12,000-$12,500 per family in 2016, with the costs rising thereafter.

So, basically, you're looking at penalties of approximately the following at the following income levels:

Less than $9,500 income = $0
$9,500 - $37,000 income = $695
$50,000 income = $1,000
$75,000 income = $1,600
$100,000 income = $2,250
$125,000 income = $2,900
$150,000 income = $3,500
$175,000 income = $4,100
$200,000 income = $4,700
Over $200,000 = The cost of a "bronze" health-insurance plan

Don't pay the insurance and don't pay the penalty. The language of the the Afordable healthcareact is very specific when it states that the only way for the Government to collect a penalty is to take it from your TAX RETURN. They can't take your car, can't garnish your wages, can take your house. Just your tax return. So claim a high enough amount so you get a tax return, and presto! Non collectable

Well, I just got a letter from my healthcare provider and my rates are going UP!!! Because I am healthy with absolutely no health issues, and the same is true of my husband and 2 older children, and because we do not smoke, are not overweight and have no need for maternity coverage, etc., our insurance rates were very good. BUT now we have to pay for those who are not as healthy and who live lifestyles that eventually lead to serious health issues. Their rates will go down, but those of us who are healthy and live healthy lives will go UP!! Sorry, but I do not believe in the one-size fits all system.

The letter also noted that my current plan and rates will not be available as of Jan. 1, 2014. I can select from a number of "qualified products" but they are basically all the same. I cannot begin to tell you how much this pisses me off! I am self-employed and this will hurt me and my family.

But, hey, I am glad that your rates are lower. I hope that does not change for you.
 Quoting: livnlife2day

Don't blame it on smokers, etc., blame the insurance companies who charging smokers an extra $5000 per year, extra for young women etc, trust me they already got there money from the "high risk" category. They are not "giving" insurance to "high-risk" category and then charging the healthy, they are gouging every single person they can for every single reason they can. They are raising the healthy people and blaming it on the non-healthy people, they have every excuse in the book, just like car insurance, its just a all around scam !

The reason for this clusterf*ck is to make people accept single-payer plan (where it is deducted out of your paycheck and everyone gets insurance), that was the plan all along, Harry Reid just admitted it last week !!!!

I think there plan is working as people are so freaked out about this Obamacare, that they will be indeed relieved with the single-player plan.

I have had a dream where I got hit by a car. I got knocked out, no real injury's. An ambulance shows up and 4 or 5 people run to my aide. The first question they ask me is if I have insurance. I say no. They say sorry sir, we cannot help you and the cost for you to have us drive out here is $3,000.

It was a dream but I can't help but feel that's how it will be in the future. Considering a charge of $3000 for a Ambulance to show up is already reality.

It says my unsubsidized premium would be $8,025/year.

I would get a government tax credit of up to $7,243 which means I would only pay $782 per year or $65.16 a month for a family of three.

That sounds pretty fantastic. What's the catch?!?!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30004914

you'll have to come up with $669 per month for 2014 and then you'll get credit on your 2014 taxes when you file in 2015. Can you afford that kind of tax? This will be interesting to say the least.

So my plan now costs me $8500 for the wife and I (she is a smoker) with a maximum out of pocket of $5500. This is a higher deductible HSA that does not pay for things like office visits and medications until the deductible is met but we are both healthy and can afford the deductible. We only need coverage for catastrophic illness damnit.

I ran the numbers on the calculator and it comes up to 12,000 a year for the bronze plan and over 14,000 fucking dollars for the silver plan with a $12,700 out of pocket. I used an income of $60,000 because if I am forced into this I will cut back my workload in my shop and stay under the magic $65,000 income level so all you poor Obama voters can pay for half my premiums.

How's that Hope and Change working out for all you 29hr a week Tards now?

Yes, this is a not so subtle push to one-payer system via Federal government.

I have as close to a net zero tax return as possible. I use the highest legal number of dependents on my W4 and calculate it out. So that's either no tax return or have to pay under 10-USD come each 15 April. Well worth the finagling, especially now, if the Feds are planning on taking any "tax penalty" out of ones tax return.

Here's a question for those who are much more familiar with the AHCA: If one sees a Naturopath, does one have to buy into the allopathic insurance program? Naturopaths aren't affiliated with insurance companies, medical facilities or hospitals (that I'm aware of).

If you can get yourself elected to Congress, you'll be exempt and you won't have to worry about it.

So work on that.
