If you are on Medicare or other government programs Obamacare will help you. If you work for a living as part of the middle class you are screwed. Instead of jobs for everyone the government wants to make it good to not work.

The catch is my husband who cannot pay his student loans because he has a 4 year degree plus flight training will be paying $10,000+ for his premium for a family of 5 non smoking. Lets throw $12000 out of pocket on top of that. We don't have it!!!

Your husband and I are exactly the same. 4yr degree + flight training student loans. And now I pay $18000 per year in health insurance premiums not to mention the $8000 family deductible. So if you just count premiums + doctor visits + prescriptions for a family of 4 with ZERO health problems I pay over $20,000 per year.

Well, I just got a letter from my healthcare provider and my rates are going UP!!! Because I am healthy with absolutely no health issues, and the same is true of my husband and 2 older children, and because we do not smoke, are not overweight and have no need for maternity coverage, etc., our insurance rates were very good. BUT now we have to pay for those who are not as healthy and who live lifestyles that eventually lead to serious health issues. Their rates will go down, but those of us who are healthy and live healthy lives will go UP!! Sorry, but I do not believe in the one-size fits all system.

The letter also noted that my current plan and rates will not be available as of Jan. 1, 2014. I can select from a number of "qualified products" but they are basically all the same. I cannot begin to tell you how much this pisses me off! I am self-employed and this will hurt me and my family.

It would take 50% of my net income just for me! And that didn't include the smoker's clause...the other half, well hell that was just transportation and the added tax on our joint income (bumped up into higher tax bracket due to our OT). Which neither of us could avoid the OT, it was mandatory.

I think you have to earn under $15k a year for it to be wholly subsidized, and then you can imagine what type of care you're going to get, might as well just vet yourself at that point.

Then, it gets better, everyone has to have their own insurance right? Well, ok, so it's means tested, but it's means tested on FAMILY income, not just yours.

So they are double-dipping. If I have zero income, mine should be free right? Wrong. So, my husband gets his from work and pays "x" for it, now if they drop me from his policy, and I have to go buy my own on ZERO income, they will take HIS income (even though I don't earn any) and based MY policy on HIS income, which then, I think the premium will be even higher! WTF?

I told him, you know, we might have to get divorced to afford to live if this really goes down. Then we can get re-married once it's all worked out. It's bad, it will wipe out the middle class, I foresee a lot of people quitting jobs, getting divorced, and going on welfare if it really comes to pass. It's going to be a NIGHTMARE for all of the working classes.

#1 some one else is paying for your healthcare
#2 you still have to come up with $8,025 to pay your premiums. You don't get your money back(Tax Credit) until you file your taxes.

The catch?!!!! WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK IS PAYING YOUR SUBSIDY? So, I now lose a healthcare plan for my family of 4 that was good coverage at a very affordable rate. I now get to replace it with a healthcare plan that is less coverage, higher deductible and a much higher premium AND I get no subsidy but I get to pay for your ass!!! And you dare to ask, "What's the catch?" Just another hand out that will result in even more entitle-minded people and the down fall of the middle class. I think it is time to close my business and go on the government dole. I would end up faring much better and getting more benefits. What incentive do I offer my children so that they will work hard to do better? Why bother?

P.S. If you are older, and have any assets, i.e. paid off house, etc., you might want to think about putting it all into the type of trust the government goons can't break due to medical bills...see an attorney.

And they say it's to protect your life savings...well, only if your dirt poor already and on SS or welfare. If you work, and have an income, or aren't yet on SS, your assets are going to be up for grabs when you can't afford the co-pays or premiums, and also can't afford the $100k medical bills because you didn't BUY the insurance and just paid the fine, anyway you look at it, screwed.

A tax credit is dollar for dollar, it is NOT an exemption.
So, you'll get back $7,243.00 (providing you don't owe them) at tax return time.

But, you'll be paying $8025.25 in all year long, so they get to use our (taxpayers) money and then reimburse you (from tax payers monies) later w/your tax credit.

Side Note: As far as the smoker's premium, ha, that's cherry-picking, what about alcoholics, drug-abusers, grossly obese? Sexually promiscuous? Will they pay a higher premium too? Are they going to test you? Everyone? Oh the rabbit hole is going deep on this.
