I try to supplement any MSM news with my own research. Until today, one of my concerns was the rising number of people on food stamps. However, today I saw that the cost is a mere 80 million dollars. Sounds like a lot until compared to the other things government spends money on. We gave over 1,000 million just to Egypt and our debt grows by over a million million PER YEAR. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 44259709 Don't get me wrong, I still worry about what will happen to those people if/when it all collapse. However, you won't see me getting baited into hysterics over such a miniscule part of the overall budget. |

From what I've heard in the last election, they kept saying half the USA is on food stamps and people eating like pigs and turning into zombies. If its only $80 million, whats the big fuss. Maybe if it were $800 million I would understand. |

It breeds dependence, that dependence will be passed down from generation to generation. Then you have 200 million people who "expect" the government to feed, clothe and house them. That is not good. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 45074617 United States 08/13/2013 12:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There are negative aspects of food stamp use. In theory it sounds good to make sure your population has a basic sustinence safety net -- and it probably is. Unfortunately most of the money for food stamps just gets recycled back to major agricultural conglomerates who filling the stores with their GMO shit anyway. Various food retailers spend millions lobbying the government to get their locations approved for EBT and SNAP [I know Taco Bell was lobbying, I am not sure if they were successful]. Asl food stamps can make it easier for low quality undesirables to breed and continue their genetic lineage. |

Yes, cowards, because how fucking easy is it for you to blame poor, defenseless people instead of confronting the rich and powerful who are much more in control of our shitty situation. There are many ways that we could save money. Stop shipping much damn money to foreign dictators and societies who contribute nothing to us or our society. At least American citizens have or will contribute to the system at some point. Not to mention how much we have invested in them through raising them, and collectively putting them through school, or giving medical treatment to them so that one day they can contribute something. Who cares if the media and your party says it is such a drain on the system or call it welfare. I agree that there are a lot of people abusing the system but most are not and the requirements to receiving assistance are much more stringent than most people who have never actually experienced it believe. At one point I took food stamps, I've gotten fed backed student loans, my grandma gets ss so I don't have to pay to take care of her, I've gotten unemployment and back then I made about $500-800 working a full time job. Now, I make 60k and I work my ass off and always have. But I don't think I would be here without help: help from my family, help from schools and teachers, help from friends and random strangers, and yes even help from the government. Does that make me a fucking leech or a good fucking investment? F*** all of you self righteous snobs. |
*Evan User ID: 43993722 United States 08/13/2013 12:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here comes the welfare whining again. I will say the same thing I always say to you people. 90% of American households have received government assistance at one time or another. So, chances are that you or someone in your family to the benefit of you had gotten government assistance. You just forget to include certain things because subsidized student loans, for example, are not pounded into your head as welfare by Fox News every damn day (and guess what.. I'm a Republican!) Copperhead User ID: 44651968 United States 08/13/2013 12:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When food stamps were first expanded nationally in the 1970s, just 1 in 50 Americans participated; today the figure is almost 1 in 7. The program has doubled in size since 2008 and quadrupled since 2001. Food stamps are one of nearly 80 means-tested federal welfare programs, including 17 for nutritional support. Collectively, these programs cost $700 billion annually, plus $200 billion in state contributions. From 2001 to 2006 the food stamp budget doubled, even as unemployment remained around five percent. Food stamps make up 80 percent of the current farm bill, costing $770 billion over the next 10 years. Food stamp spending is projected to remain permanently and significantly above pre-recession levels. Were food stamp spending returned to pre-recession (2007) levels, and increased at the rate of inflation, it would produce 10-year savings of $340 billion. The current farm bill calls for only $4 billion in savings. [link to hotair.com] Must be OPs first day shilling for the DNC, and she needs time to figure out the finer points of shilling. |
