Surge of brain activity may explain near-death experience, study says

All they've proven is that when the heart stops there is an increase in brain activity.

HOW does this prove there is no afterlife?

When looked at from a different angle, one could say that there is an increase in brain activity right before one leaves their body, en route to the afterlife.

Don't our brains create our present life?

Perhaps the increase in brain activity is the spark that creates the afterlife!

Or it could just be a dream.

Some say that life is but a dream.

Great book by the way but I wish Strassman would have ask much more detailed questions on the 'trips', though that wasn't in the study proposal.

Not good enough to make that claim in this study. There is no accounting for NDE experiences such as finding a shoe on a hospital window ledge that can only be seen if in the air - out of body.

What about the experiences after the tunnel? The NDE does not always stop with a bright light!

This has been debunked by several other studies.

Thought is was a flurry of brain activity, low oxygen, etc..., but they found out that is not the case.

Will post when I find several of those scientific studies done by neurologists.

They just want us to believe that we're all pointless machines with no purpose except to breed, shop, and work.

Have you ever had a DMT trip? It's one of the most random,crazy, abstract experiences ever. But NDE's are nothing like that. They are hyper-real and lucid, and almost always involve the same aspects (tunnel, dead relatives etc). I don't buy the DMT theory at all.

I suggest to look into NDE accounts by people that were born blind. That will remove any doubt in your mind.

Who releases the Spirit at death?

Have you ever had a DMT trip?

Lots of stuff is attributed to DMT. A bit of hype sells the theory and idea. Unfortunately due to its nature a lot of people simply repeat the same ideas as if it were proven fact, when it is not. I think DMT has something to do with the mind/brain connection personally, but who knows. It is a crazy experience regardless.

I think this surge in brain activity could be hinting at a transition like experience where significant neural activity/energy is needed to push the person from sitting in the body to sitting in.. ?

This study is about actual death. The rats suffered cardiac arrest meaning their hearts stopped beating and that's the time when these mammals died. After dying their brain activity however increased in such a way that it was heightened above normal consciousness. Meaning that they were possibly even more conscious, more alive and more aware, than normally.

I find this very interesting. And I cannot understand why religious people, or people who want to defend their belief in afterlife or NDEs, find this study bullshit or biased. I mean, what do you think happens when you die and all the angels take care of you or you go to heaven. I mean, if its' real, why wouldn't it show in our brains?

Is it that religious people think that spiritual matters have no connection whatsoever to physical matters. I don't understand. Because spiritual matters are in fact connected to physicality. That's why it is truly possible to be cured from disease, from addiction, and all sorts of trauma via spiritual healing. Jesus cured people. He cured people in fact, in physical reality, not just some superspiritual realm with absolutely no connection to physical reality.

The NDE debunkers don't want anyone to believe in God or anything greater than the human.

The debunkers also don't want anyone to believe in absolute moral codes (right/wrong, etc.) because they don't want to be held responsible for their lying, stealing, and cheating, especially intellectual property theft (but don't you do it, or they will scream and stick their relativistic legal system on you).

Essentially, the worry is that humans who believe in God or an afterlife will hold transgressors responsible for the harm they have done to others. Then they would be deprived of their "memories of good times," which are really only comprised of their addictive indulgences, and ability to donate to charities that promote their causes.
