Amen...but the moon isn't blood red, it in only orange. It was very dark orange almost reddish after Mt. St. Helens blew. This is only smoke in the atmosphere from the fires in Utah and western Colorado.

Hmmm?? Wonder why I would get more ash then? Like someone else is saying, it was darker last night but only for a little while. Wind currents cleared it up.

At the time OP says he took his photo, at 5:22 UT, the moon should have been about 20 degrees above the horizon in the southwest, at 218.22 degrees azimuth with an apparent orientation of 25.64 degrees from vertical with the illuminated limb facing down towards the horizon as seen from the middle of Utah (39.5 N 111.5 W).

218 degrees azimuth (0 degrees north) at 20 degrees over the horizon sounds pretty far south to me... yet that is where the moon is supposed to be.

The moon.

"Blood Moon over Utah"
"We have lots of wildfires going on right now, so there's a ton of haze in the sky. I couldn't see anything else in the sky, so I just had to take a shot. I wasn't kidding, I didn't touch the colors. It looked crazy!"

It looks red because of smoke from wildfires in the area. That photo was from August 14th, but it's the same story tonight. At the time OP says he took his photo, at 5:22 UT, the moon should have been about 20 degrees above the horizon in the southwest, at 218.22 degrees azimuth with an apparent orientation of 25.64 degrees from vertical with the illuminated limb facing down towards the horizon as seen from the middle of Utah (39.5 N 111.5 W).

no... its due to a substance in the air where the OP is...

think of it the same way you would a colored lens cover...

the moon is a light and the red is something in the air that is acting like a lens cover...

but the lens cover is super small and only makes it look red in one area...

typically its more orange... rusty looking with red tints... but the OP's is more blood red... which is kinda an brow raiser...

i'd assume that maybe some chemicals used in firefighting are making it redder...

maybe its the expose on the cam... messing with it?

or maybe its fukingshima?

That's NOT a half moon.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 40487804

Technically you're right; it's a little more than half full or first quarter (technical term), but close enough.

...

What's your point? The moon OP took pictures was "half full."

Moving forward.
Memories left behind. A new life, a new journey. I've built anew.
For mankind... for my kind.
The vessel stares back at me. From every angle, the menacing smile latches on.
Talking walls speak and spell my life story.
My past life.
The vessel sleeps beside me... the comfort breath.
Morning skin of machines, of humanity's beginnings.
Am I God? I've been called worse... drift in and out.
This vessel brings me sleep.
