It looks red because of smoke from wildfires in the area. That photo was from August 14th, but it's the same story tonight. At the time OP says he took his photo, at 5:22 UT, the moon should have been about 20 degrees above the horizon in the southwest, at 218.22 degrees azimuth with an apparent orientation of 25.64 degrees from vertical with the illuminated limb facing down towards the horizon as seen from the middle of Utah (39.5 N 111.5 W).

here last two weeks with all the fires,the sun turned the most amazing metallic red and looked small
