Bright Red Planet in Sky...... im not joking...

Amen...but the moon isn't blood red, it in only orange. It was very dark orange almost reddish after Mt. St. Helens blew. This is only smoke in the atmosphere from the fires in Utah and western Colorado.

ok, so i really really dont think this is the moon.... the moon is ALWAYS over the mountains here in utah. These pictures are taken 5 minutes ago and this huge bright red planet is in the south west sky...... im freaking out.

That is how mine looked so didn't even save it. I'm north of Denver, I think you are south, that might be why I was seeing darker orange...wind flow of the ash??

not a bad pic. its got the phase showing up... and it clearly shows that the red isnt as present at your locale... than it is at the OP's

proving that something in the OP's locale is making it redder...

At the time OP says he took his photo, at 5:22 UT, the moon should have been about 20 degrees above the horizon in the southwest, at 218.22 degrees azimuth with an apparent orientation of 25.64 degrees from vertical with the illuminated limb facing down towards the horizon as seen from the middle of Utah (39.5 N 111.5 W).

It looks red because of smoke from wildfires in the area. That photo was from August 14th, but it's the same story tonight.
