on a similar note, I always thought that in Rosemary's Baby, they were saying TANAS root, an anagram for satan. however, my husband has the book and he showed me it was tanis root. I don't believe it, I still think TANAS would have been a better word for it.

Lets get the facts straight:
1. Satan is from shaytan, satan in hebrew means the acuser or adversary. In arabic folklore, shaitan was one of the highest and brightest angels who disobeyed God, he didnt want to serve/help humans, because he could serve only one being and he loved only one being, God. God had to cast him out of heaven, because only angels could live in heaven. He created another dimension called hell/underworld you name it, where he could rule his own dominion. Satan hates us,because we are the reason of his cast-out and he never was fond of the idea that we humans are one of the highest beings, thats why he always tries to take us from the right path, he does the suffering, he spawns diseases, he wants us to perish and suffer. Satan was never evil, he is fallen angel, yet he is still angel and he waits for the day, when he can finally return to heaven, but until humans are...humans he cant go into heaven and be reunited with God. Angels are the right hand of God, they care for us, they help us, they protect us, while Demons and Satan are left hand of God, when we do bad, they scold us, they make us suffer, they inflict pain and chaos in our lifes, they are like father, who has to scold his child in order for him to be a better person, to show him what he done bad. When we live as we should and do what we should we have divine protection, demons cant touch us or harm us, but when we deviate, our protection wears of and well, we are like sitting ducks for them.

To make Lucifer, evil...while he is not, he is just punishing us for being bad. But Satan, is far different being, in other myths he is portrayed as pure evil wich was sealed away in earth. I think the best interpretation of this is the Cthulhu mythos. Yes, even look in bible Satan is interpereted as dragon, one of the highest beings in chtulhu mythos is dagon, coincidence? I think not, even the story and description sits. In bible he is descripted as dragon, with scale and wings, with horrible face you cannot even look at wich was cast down into earth...exactly how cthulhu is portrayed and how it really happened.

I read that, along with other works of LaVey's. He is a very misunderstood person, and the satanic bible is not "satanic" at all, just lays out some rules to live by, which aren't that far fetched at all. Then you have the whole last half with spells to summon demons, but I skipped that bc I'm not into that ritual aspect of it. Not interested in summoning anything, actually LOL but to each their own.
