Drink coffee at Starbucks this Saturday..... don't let them be blackmailed
[link to www.usatoday.com]

The Starbucks siren suddenly has a gun to her head.

An advocacy group has called for "Skip Starbucks Saturday" this weekend — a nationwide boycott on Aug. 24, to pressure the coffee giant to amend its current policy, which allows customers to carry loaded guns into Starbucks stores where permitted by state law.

The way that reads is as if people who carry are dangerous.

In Aus we really have no idea how you guys live over there, till we visit.

Not all people who carry are bad guys. It is not the line that the anti-gun group want to believe.

Fuck that place. Why would anyone buy a coffee that costs as much as a pound of fresh ground beans. This place is what's wrong in this country. Keep on buying their shit bean juice and crying for them. I will stick to avoiding that shithole and making my own for pennies of their cost. P.s. you are fucking stupid.

Re: Drink coffee at Starbucks this Saturday..... don't let them be blackmailed
The idea of gun rights is split about fifty-fifty in the U.S. So this isn't a minority "pushing around a majority... again" it's a group trying to stop something they personally find frightening.

Let's look at a few facts:

1. People very seldom shoot up Starbucks.

So we don't have a lot of data to look at as to what happened, when it did.

The Pro-gun people claim that they have a right to do so (which they do, since it's legal and Starbucks allows it.) They also claim that they aren't a danger to others when they do so, which is likely also the case.

Again, there are very few shootings inside Starbucks coffee places.

The Anti-gun people claim that most gun jockey's are fearful, slightly unstable people that might fly off the handle and kill people at any moment. But only if they have a weapon on them.

Otherwise, they are no worse than any reasonable person, except for the biting.

*All right, I dressed this one up a bit, but still...

It's pretty much also true.

I mean, we live in one of the safest places on the planet, and you don't need a gun inside your local coffee shop, or to ensure that you get home safely. If you can't see that, it's a bit of a mental disconnect from reality.

So, in that way, both sides are right.

2. Both sides are a-holes.

This is universally true however, since almost all people are. You are and so am I, but I'm advanced enough to admit it. In an anonymous forum.

But only one side wants to take their fire arms into a coffee shop. That part isn't sane. Every argument that involves an armed person is more likely to become lethal than one without such weapons.

That's simply fact. When was the last time someone was shot by and unkind word? Or died from a sock to the jaw. Sure, it happens, but rarely enough that it is barely a real thing.

On this one, the anti-gun people are correct. You may not like it, but the fact is, anyone that thinks they need to walk around armed in modern America is a little unstable. And therefore should not be allowed to.

3. Just as it is not illegal for people to carry legal fire arms, it is not wrong for others to protest them for doing so. Or to protest a company that let's it happen.

You don't get it both ways. You either have rights or you don't. If you quell free speech, say by showing up at Starbucks armed to intimidate those that don't like guns, then you're in the wrong. Going unarmed and drinking a cup of joe is fair, except that the only winner in all of this will be Starbucks.

Yeah, think about it.

If you go and "support them" with your five bucks for a single cup of bad coffee, then they win.

If you don't they ban guns, and the people that want you gone will get their way and then spend more at SB for a while, so they also win.

While this may not be a publicity stunt, it has a strange sense of one company not being able to easily lose.

Really, this should be pinned. Why is Starbucks targeted by anti-gun lobbyists? The fact that they promote the rights the states give the gun owners shouldn't be taken out on them; if they hate anything, change the laws, not the stores. This is all about control and it is similar to trying to create a store where blacks are not allowed. That's right, the anti-gun lobby is acting like racists here.

And even if people think gun laws should be changed, I think they can still respect Starbucks and protect them from this abuse -- as long as open carry is the law, Starbucks should be commended for promoting the law. Change the law, not Starbucks. See if you can change it, not send out a hit on Starbucks....

I typically get a 3-shot espresso. Each shot after the first is only 50 cents. I think espresso at McD's is more expensive.

Sure, it's cheaper to make coffee at home. I even make espresso at home, have a grinder, espresso machine, etc. But if you're on the road, Starbux is a good place.

Think I'll stop in at one on Saturday if I can. Thanks for the info, OP, I hadn't heard about this before.

And I find the repeal of gun rights frightening, for the reasons we all know so well.

Yes the protesters have the right to boycott Starbucks and encourage others to do so.

I have the right to "protest the protest" and make a point of going to Starbucks to show my support.

So if it is "guntards" who are manipulated, then why is it the anti-gun advocates are all over Starbucks? Seems like you want Starbucks to take a "hit" for its support of gun owners.
