The 24-acre sinkhole has grown by a factor of more than 20 since last year and taken on a volcano-like quality. The sinkhole has dormant periods and active periods, when tremors increase and methane and an emulsified oily gunk are released from deep natural deposits.

There has been another burp that occurred and is continuing on the sinkhole. All operations have been pulled from inside of the sinkhole until activity calms down. The monitoring/alert status has been heightened to Code 3.

we're all in a lot of trouble. if that thing is a sinkhole, why is the water level not dropping?

that's the ocean imho. bit by bit, it will engulf everything there, but where will it stop?

seriously, gtf out

found something else to, that isn't in search..

Cargill stops mining salt under Lake Erie out of safety concerns
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cargill salt mine below Lake Erie has stopped mining because of concerns that the roof 1,800 feet below ground could collapse.

That’s according to Cargill spokesman Mark Klein, who said the company stopped mining salt on Monday after its first shift, sending about 100 employees home for the week with pay.

This may relate to many themes explored here. The story was sent in by an eagle-eyed reader. By highway driving it is 1,169 miles from Lake FUBAR:

look at the map on the link. isn't there some sort of inundation map by some future seer, that shows an ocean from where the sinkhole is all the way up to the lakes?

so, I looked for something half way between them. in say, Tennessee..

Clarksville, TN - Clarksville Police are assisting Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) crews in containing a sinkhole near Exit 8 on Interstate 24. Motorists are urged to use an alternate route until the problem has been contained. We will update this story as it continues to develop.

The sinkhole is on the eastbound side, and traffic is down to one lane. Be advised.

this is ONE DAY AGO.

That whole line from Lake Erie to Louisiana is littered with salt deposits and mines. Why? Because it used to be ocean long ago. Where do people think the salt deposits come from? The earth is starting to reclaim it due to rises in the ocean levels overpowering 'natural land locked bulkheads' that keep the salt deposits from being affected by the sea.

Did you explain that boats float?

Also, the sinkhole is much much deeper than 100'

Yeah, he said it was deeper than 110 feet, too. I was like how fucking deep? He thought 300 feet possibly. I know boats float but, I guess we were thinking because of the pull it would have dragged one into the hole. I was shocked to see it though. Been wondering for a time what is going on with all these sinkholes.

why isn't the water DROPPING though? why is it staying the same level, as the hole gets deeper and deeper?

it can only mean one thing, can't it?

those black marks at the bottoms of the remaining trees. Are they a natural part of trees like that, or are they indicating a tidal range there?
