UPDATED) Study shows Fukushima nuclear pollution becoming more concentrated Those tanks are designed appallingly: *The C sections mean there are straight joints that basically can't be shored up from the outside. That one is for sure. But these others note my disclaimer: *Thinking this over I am not sure about this and maybe they simplified the diagram for news purposes, so - maybe there are appropriate cavities for the grommets or they have some other embellishments. However, NHK showed a diagram of the tanks and the grommets depicted were just simple flat pieces under load from the tank wall! If they did it like that the tanks are horribly temporary and there's no way the grommets will last. Think of a soft rubber shoe and a hundred tonne concrete foot grinding on it. The grommet has to float and only have water pressure on it. * there also didn't appear to be any interlock on the concrete sections. An earthquake could just shake the tanks into bits or off their foundation slabs. Also what happened to their dewatering? They were doing it a while ago? Why aren't they evapourating this water? Is it they can't remove the tritium? |

Quoting: Goofy for God At news conference, the head of Japan's nuclear regulation authority Shunichi Tanaka appeared to give credence to Mr Schneider's concerns, saying that he feared there would be further leaks. ``We should assume that what has happened once could happen again, and prepare for more. We are in a situation where there is no time to waste," he told reporters. [link to www.bbc.co.uk] lots of rants today No time to waste? NO FUCKING TIME TO WASTE? UPDATED) Study shows Fukushima nuclear pollution becoming more concentrated I am half Japanese and have spent several months in southern Japan in the past. I know the Japanese are taking a bad rap for this and very much deserve it on SOME levels. Do not blame the Japanese people for this disaster and 'not doing anything' about it. How much/what can citizens of Japan do? They did not cause it, nor do they have the ability/power to do anything about it. TEPCO and the Japanese government deserve a dunk in the shitter for this for sure. Do we American's take the blame for the NSA's actions? Are WE responsible for Barry's actions? Did you personally do anything to clean up after Katrina and Sandy? What are YOU doing about these problems? The Japanese people I met in my time in Japan were the most respectful, disciplined and hard working people I had ever met. It's truly a wakeup call from living in NY. You realize there are places and people on this earth who still believe believe in their society and it's traditions and history. I cringe when I see Japanese copying Western culture because it absolutely detracts from their image. I saw teenagers and 20-somethings holding doors open and using manners with my elderly parents. Even the ones with crazy hair and ripped clothes. If anything happens in the coming months and years in Japan that forces things to change drastically, it will be a very sad time. I understand that of course not all of Japan's culture is not something to be emulated, but there is so much there that American's should learn from. We should be ashamed of ourselves. Yes, there were wars also in the past and many countries have done things they aren't proud of, but this isn't what I'm attending to. My thoughts and hopes go out to the people of Japan. I hope your government swallows it's pride and does the right thing for your future. |

That's a very specific number, what's your expertise again? Discrediting the expertise of others and never demonstrating any expertise of your own? Actually i would say that the Numbers are not underestimated and not specific, there is enough Room for speculations I was bringing nearly always the needed Material but no one in here is interested in the opinions of the People who really know so i don't do it here, all i done was calculating the Time, the History of Accidents and the Size of the NPP! Here, again, you allude to knowledge and information in your possession, but you do not present it. You even say that you fully intend to not present it. This is because that information does not exist. Your only goal is to discredit, never to provide actual information. It is so fucking pathetically obvious. |

UPDATED) Study shows Fukushima nuclear pollution becoming more concentrated When you look at the sheer volume of the Pacific Ocean and the distance and square mileage of space surrou do g Fukushima which is just a minuscule pin prick on the world map, I don't believe it can REALLY be that bad. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23855032 Don't get me wrong, I know it's horrible and bad but can it really be THAT bad? I mean there's a farmer living right up the road from the Fukushima plant who is still perfectly healthy. If the radiation is as bad as some of you say that guy should be long dead by now. Don't give me the excuse of long term accumulation either. If its really that bad then that farmer would be dead by now. Dead. Humans absorbed Chernobyl with little difficulty. Sure a few thousand died or whatever. But it didn't kill the planet. I know Fukushima is much worse. But still, is something the size of a swimming pool going to kill everything on the planet? I highly doubt it. Were you even alive when Chernobyl happened? 1.You don't understand how radiation works. 2. Fukushima has been leaking 4x the amount of Chernobyl radiation into the ocean AND atmosphere every day for 2.5 years. 3. Radiation is cumulative and affects young people far more than older people due to the speed of cell division/growth. 4. It is estimated that 1 million people have died as a result of Chernobyl. 5. Little difficulty? The damage from Chernobyl will last at least 1000 years. They are just starting to see the genetic mutations to human DNA from the Chernobyl accident. Thousands of children born with birth defects and mutations are being sterilized to prevent these mutations from entering the population. Trust me, Japan already aborts and murders deformed/retarded babies. Don't think they haven't stepped up their efforts to prevent the damaged DNA from Fukushima from being exposed. I could go on |
