Michael Hastings - LA Weekly: "He came to believe his Mercedes was being tampered with"
Can't say that I am surprised by this.

Hastings was intensely interested in government surveillance of journalists. In May, the story broke about the Department of Justice obtaining the phone records of Associated Press reporters. A couple weeks later, Edward Snowden's revelations about the National Security Agency's massive surveillance program became public. Hastings was convinced he was a target.

His behavior grew increasingly erratic. Helicopters often circle over the hills, but Hastings believed there were more of them around whenever he was at home, keeping an eye on him. He came to believe his Mercedes was being tampered with. "Nothing I could say could console him," Thigpen says.

One night in June, he came to Thigpen's apartment after midnight and urgently asked to borrow her Volvo. He said he was afraid to drive his own car. She declined, telling him her car was having mechanical problems.

"He was scared, and he wanted to leave town," she says.

The next day, around 11:15 a.m., she got a call from her landlord, who told her Hastings had died early that morning. His car had crashed into a palm tree at 75 mph and exploded in a ball of fire.

Sounds like he should have gotten a rental.

Wonder how his neighbor feels now after she wouldn't loan him her Volvo?

Nice find.

"The Obama administration has clearly declared war on the press, it's declared war on investigative journalists, our sources. I think the only recourse to this kind of behavior by the government is to say back to the government we declare war on you, and from this point forward we should no longer as a media, as a whole, cooperate in any manor with the government in terms of doing national security stories. We should withdraw all our cooperation and we should publish everything we know because it is a free press, not a free except for when the government tells me to do it press, and we've been way to easy going with these guys. We've lets them get away with this for years, we've let them tell us what to print, what not to print, and I say be done with it and everybody should just get together and fire back, because no one else is going to defend the press."

This government murders innocent children daily in it's theaters of war, why would anyone be surprised that they might off an antagonist reporter willing to call them out. We are living in the "New Order" already and silence is the mandate.

The article said "mechanical trouble", not broken. I took this to mean "not running it's best", but who knows.

Perhaps the most disgusting aspect of this is the cowards that he worked for have been silent and are going along with the bullshit narrative like the rest of the press.

The man gave his life while uncovering a story for his boss who rewarded his sacrifice by remaining silent.

Filthy cowards.

Don't see what kind of set up it could be. It's very brave of her to come forward as virtually none of Hasting's "friends" have and his "wife" appears to have recovered quickly. She appears to be an attorney with a good track record - I don't see anything suspicious about her.

Do you know something we don't?

Again, I think it is sad that there are so few comments on the open murder of a journalist most likely by our own government right here in this country. And also that there is a wall of silence among his "friends" and even his family seems fairly quiet, except for that thing he married. How very sad that such a courageous man goes down like a tree in the forest.

Pure speculation on your part.

If one was doing what Hastings was doing, and had half a brain, one would ALWAYS assume ANYTHING is possible....and probable.
....especially after the Breitbart killing...which he should have been familiar with.

Nope....article doesn't add up properly.

Re: Michael Hastings - LA Weekly: "He came to believe his Mercedes was being tampered with"
I was thinking McCrystal may have had something to do with Hasting's explosion. Seriously. Has anybody read that Rolling stones article in 2010 which was Hasting's product from a long visit to McCrystal in his camp? Cost him his career and McCrystal, given the tone of books he's written shows a machiavelian imagination. (who doesn't! LOL!)

McCrystal WAS the army..that was his life. Hastings lost it for him blowing his role in covering up circumstances of Tillman's death. And what a pu$$y O was 'sleeping in' because he had a cold & McCrystal's contempt for that. The insult to Biden? Everybody insults Biden.

BTW, if Hastings was that paranoid he would have chosen a more hands-on kind of car.
Plus I agree he would have at least gotten a rental.

Hastings clearly knew something. Their trying to say he was on meth and amphetamines when he died. I don't buy it. What ever information he had it had to be top secret. Why else would he be so worried?

It has been already reported that Hastings had traces of drugs (amphetamines and marijuana) in his system. They say this would explain his paranoia. Why am I not surprised? The story is so repetative in cases of whistleblowers or rogue reporters. Good way to keep the minor discontented lots very, very quiet.

Think about this a second. Hastings was BARBEQUED in that crash/explosion.
How long did it take to pull him out of the car?..Probably at least 20 minutes in a petroleum fire which is unbelievably hot.
How on earth could they have gotten a decent blood sample on him for the purpose of blood testing. Blood in his body was thick and cooked and oh, yes likely altered any drugs themselves for a test to register let alone measure a compound.
Answer: Impossible to get a drug or alcohol profile from a blackened charred body.

I completely reject that theory.
