Reading Beards basic history of the United States

Publushed in 1944 No doubt it is probably banned in most schools today because it really tells you whole story of country formation

Many come voluntarily to new world to escape the hell of the old world

Which still is hell to this day

Beard once thought of constitution as a Marxist class struggle document only meant to benefit rich at time

In history of US he changed his mind it seems and extols the virtues of it

I think it is fair to say our embargo of Japan's oil imports was an act of war, so their attack on us should have been no surprise. The Germans were bankrolled by some heavy hitters in the States because of their presumed opposition to communism (and probably sympathy for fascist ideals as well.)

there was also undoubtedly pure profit lust given the money to be made in the military industrial complex what would emerge and never go away.

Most same Americans opposed entry into the war.

Cool.
I really dig reading earlier contemporary histories as well.
It's often a very different story than the current dominant paradigm. ;-`)

Try Dave Mcgowan's (spelling?) "Understanding the F word: American Fascism and the Politics of Illusion"

Great first two-thirds ESPECIALLY his thumbnail sketches of the US presidents - for example did you know Gerald R Ford, Jr. was born Leslie Lynch King and changed his name in College?

The last third is off topic (history of psychology) but the first two thirds were engaging and a quick read.
