Do they know something about the salt domes being destabilized that we don't? Given the size of FEMA's purchases, it seems like it's going to be a large event. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 45651254 The Bayou Corne sinkhole seems to have tidal motion and growing, so is the Gulf of Mexico moving inland? And why does it have to do with the BP Oil Spill? What about the Bezerk in the GoM thread? Why are sinkholes spreading? How much of the US is on salt domes? Tidal motion? Yikes!! I remember seeing a survey of California at one point that showed the water believed to be under some of the state. Is there any such survey for the New Madrid area? Also look at the information that recently came out re FEMA purchases & distribution......FEMA region III gets a big chunk & so does Austin, TX. Austin would be the Wstern edge of the, well, whatever the hell they've going to call this new body of water. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26378686 Lots of research has gone into it for the last 40 years, but today, nobody can predict an earthquake. They can, if They are the ones who make it happen. Okay, so let's do some simple math, if this continues increasing at this rate: August 2014: 192 acres August 2015: 1,536 acres Okay, now let's convert the following years to square miles. (640 acres = 1 square mile) August 2016: 2.4 square miles August 2017: 19 square miles August 2018: 154 square miles August 2019: 1,228 square miles August 2020: 9,830 square miles August 2021: 78,643 square miles August 2022: 629,145 square miles August 2023: 5,033,164 square miles (Note: Numbers after 2016 have been rounded.) Now, what does this mean? Well . . . 78,643 square miles is bigger than Nebraska. 629,145 square miles is bigger than Alaska's land area 5,033,164 square miles is about two-and-a-half times as big as Mexico. Now, obviously, Louisiana is a coastal state, meaning that the figures above WON'T be correct as to actual land loss. Plus, I don't know if the sinkhole WILL continue to grow at an eightfold rate per year. But can anyone smarter than I explain what WOULD be the possible outcome if this situation is allowed to continue unchecked? How much land CAN be lost before it must stop growing? (In other words, can anyone tell me the worst possible scenario?) And, please, if I am being "stupid" about this, please tell me so!! (And, btw, according to DESMOG.blog, "Sonny Cranch, the PR spokesman for Texas Brine, says what is happening in Bayou Corne is unprecedented. So far that is the only fact all parties involved have been able to agree upon." |

We noticed in New Madrid, there was a huge government/white trucks presence. There were four white government trucks near the water tower, looked like they were surveying with radio antennas. On the side of their truck, it read "Radio Frequency" Is this normal for the area? We went towards the Bend (the overlook near the museum, near the famed "New Madrid Bubble") Underneath the overlook was a city truck, taking pictures from across the way. I was listening to just when they drove up, talking about the sand boils were bigger than usual. He took pictures with his cell phone. Are sand boils normal in this area? Maybe it was much ado about nothing.... All and all, a VERY interesting place to visit. I was going to start a thread over my experience, but wondered if others knew of anything about this city. Do residents from New Madrid comment on this page? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 45651254 Does COREXIT (Core Exit) eat Salt? As in salt domes? [link to www.youtube.com] Corexit 9527, used in lesser quantities during the earlier days of the spill response, is designated a chronic and acute health hazard by EPA. The 9527 formula contains 2-butoxyethanol, pinpointed as the cause of lingering health problems experienced by cleanup workers after the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill, and propylene glycol, a commonly used solvent. Ebola hemorrhagic fever signs and symptoms: rapid onset of fever, malaise, muscle pain, headache, and the inflammation of the pharynx (throat). Six days following vomiting and bloody diarrhea, individuals may develop maculopapular rash with bleeding at needle sites and bodily orifices. "Corexit was the manufacturer's ability to supply the large volumes needed to deal with the response to the massive spill, said BP spokesman Mark Salt." or this [link to dublinsmick.wordpress.com] |
