Re: GOOD GRIEF! Where's the GOOD COFFEE?
grind your own beans. mr coffee grinder about $18.
buy eight o clock whole bean coffee. it is not expensive and tastes and smells delicious. even if you don't grind, buy eight o clock. the best 100% columbian coffee you will ever taste. another trick is that after you open your coffee, keep it in a tightly closed container or a zip lock bag with air squeezed out. you want to keep your coffee moist and not dried out which loses flavor quickly.

Re: GOOD GRIEF! Where's the GOOD COFFEE?
Please. What has happened to the coffee supply?

Where can we get a real cup of coffee anymore? Folgers, Maxwell House and other 'affordable' coffees are just not tasting like coffee.

Anyone? Have any ideas for a good pot of coffee?

Gracias.

it's the sugar and creamer that makes coffee taste good, otherwise all coffee kind of tastes bad.

Re: GOOD GRIEF! Where's the GOOD COFFEE?
There's currently a blight affecting non-robusta coffee. Basically a bunch of bad breeding practices were used to create the current popular coffees. Robusta seems to be immune. They are trying to crossbreed various species to get an immunity started, but the new crossbreeds taste like robusta. Very similer thing happened in the 40's with bananas. Ask someone born before the 40's how a banana tasted then :p

You have got it the wrong way around. naughty
The rust blight affects the Robusta's.....not the Arabica beans.

Good coffee is not as important as good water.

Just like brewery water, it's not out of the tap.

Re: GOOD GRIEF! Where's the GOOD COFFEE?
people have you tried using a French press to make your coffee? I've tried a lot of different coffee's, the press helps bring out the flavor in the coffee. Now I'm using Starbucks Sumatran dragon good bang excellent flavor. This using 22 oz. of filtered water and 4 heaping scoops of coffee

Unlike Brazil, which produces a third of global coffee, Central American growers usually cultivate Arabica coffee rather than the intense and harsher Robusta coffee. In blends, Central American beans often are mixed in to lend flavor.

“Brazil hasn’t been affected by the rust. The lower quality picks up the slack,” said Peter Giuliano, director of the Specialty Coffee Symposium, an annual confab for coffee professionals.

“What are Folgers, Maxwell House, Kraft, General Foods, Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts going to do? They’ll start mixing more Robusta in bags of Arabica,” said De Leon of the coffee growers cooperative Fedecocagua.

Re: GOOD GRIEF! Where's the GOOD COFFEE?
I've had Starbucks a few times in my life and absolutely hated it! Unless, of course, there was lots of flavoring syrup in it...not good for the waistline. I've had Dunkin Donut coffee and it's pretty good. I really like Gevalia traditional roast but it gets pretty pricey. Now I've had Tim Horton coffee in the past too and didn't too much care for it, it was always strong. But in the last week I've had it twice and I don't know what they're doing differently but it was very good. Now since I've seen Gevalia traditional at my local market, I may start buying that again, that's my favorite.
I'm like, WTF?

Re: GOOD GRIEF! Where's the GOOD COFFEE?
I can remember when my grandpa made that coffee in the pot on top of the stove and you could see the coffee perking up in that clear knob on top and mmmm the smell.

Shoot, I've heard that he used to just boil the coffee in a pot with water. Coffee and water just boiling together.

Yes I have. Sometimes it's buy one, get one at the local store. It's pretty good.

Re: GOOD GRIEF! Where's the GOOD COFFEE?
I have to say, Gevalia holds up well being stored. We used to have a subscription, and we were flooded with coffee before I finally cancelled. lol.. We have been using it up lately, and it held up really well (for 2 years old, not re packaged or frozen) In storage room of 75 degrees or under, all this time. (whole bean)
