I think Assad is well and fully aware that his nation is under the gun by western rogues who have already demonstrated that they will just do as they please, without due process of law despite the overall disapproval of what is going down in the name of America and the other western nations that have joined the bandwagon.

What seems to me more likely is a provocation, by the west backed "rebels" to antagonize Russia. I really think these bastards aren't trying to avoid war, but actually create WW3......
