Actually.......if your read the book of Joel 2, it very much sounds like a shock wave of some sort. Or possibly spiritual pyroclastic flow. I've often wondered if the coming of the Kingdom of God literally means a Kingdom (or heavenly dimension) overlapping ours.

It later goes on to say that the Lord will take pity on his people and move them to a "renewed" land ..far away from the armies of the North. (Presumably the armies of the Antichrist spoken of in Daniel)
