The Egyptian people do not understand the Obama Administration's efforts to bring the Muslim Brotherhood back to power – Armanious.

In the light of the recent allegations of Obama supporting the Muslim Brotherhood, the US-based Coptic Egyptian author Michael Armanious tries to answer the question many Egyptians pose to themselves: why would the US administration unite forces with the oppressive regime which transforming the country into "a failed state".
In the article, published by the Gatestone Institute International Policy Council, the author speculates about what benefits might Obama possibly gain and what consequences his alleged cooperation with the Brotherhood might have for the country.

Armanious cites Amr Adeeb, a prominent Egyptian commentator, who tries to investigate reasons for Obama’s actions. According to Adeeb, the US supports the Muslim Brotherhood in search of power, because should the group gain power, the country will fall into the abyss, turning into, in Armanious’ words, "a magnet for jihadist fighters." Adeeb sees the ultimate goal of the Obama administration in turning Egypt into "another Syria or Afghanistan", at the same time discrediting Islamism and stripping it of a "viable political movement" status.

Armanious thinks the theory helps to understand Obama’s fancy of the Brotherhood. "To Westerners, this may seem like a bizarre conspiracy theory, but for Egyptians it helps explain why the US government is supporting an organization that has openly declared jihad against the West, engaged in threats of war with Israel and Ethiopia, demolished dozens of ancient historic churches, set hospitals on fire, and murdered Christians in the streets. The Muslim Brotherhood has no respect for the rule of law, but the Obama Administration treats the Egyptian military that removed the group from power as a threat to democracy itself."
At the same time Armanious makes an attempt to reveal of how undemocratic every one of Morsi’s steps was on his way to gaining power, with stopping Coptic Christians from voting being the most outrageous one.

Further on Armaniouscites other of Morsi’s actions which outwardly represent the devastating nature of his rule. He admitted he was recreating an "Islamic Caliphate", he also let walk several hardline Islamists, and even allowed them to form their political party, which was a violation of the constitution which puts ban on religious parties. He always had these people with him and in the vanguard of his movement showing they were his most trusted teammates.
Also, or the sake of strengething his support group, Morsi released members of Gamaa al-Islamiyya, founded by the "Blind Sheikh," Omar Abdel-Rahman, who attempted the first World Trade Center attack. This group is considered by the US a terrorist organization and is responsible for mass tourist killing in Luxor as a manifested ban for the Westerners to visit Egypt, though the country’s economy is heavily dependent on tourism.

In the end, Armonious reiterates the question: "Why is the US Administration siding with the forces of oppression in their country and assisting with its transformation into a failed state under the leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood?"

He concludes the article saying that by a common logic everyone, and US included, needs strong and prosperous Middle East and destroying it in any way would be damaging to the whole world in different ways. "In the Middle East, a strong economy, military, and police are the cornerstones of stability. Egypt was the first Arab nation to choose the path of peace with Israel. Egypt is the nerve system of the Arab and the Islamic world. The US has a strong interest in a stable, modern, and prosperous Egypt. It simply cannot be allowed to become another Somalia or Afghanistan, controlled by its own version of the Taliban."
