A senior Syrian official on Monday issued a first direct warning that if attacked, his country would retaliate against Israel. Khalaf Muftah, a senior Baath Party official who used to serve as Syria’s assistant information minister, said in a radio interview that Damascus would consider Israel “behind the [Western] aggression and [it] will therefore come under fire.”

“We have strategic weapons and we’re capable of responding,” he said. “Normally the strategic weapons are aimed at Israel.”

Muftah concluded with a warning that “If the US or Israel make the mistake of taking advantage of the chemical issue… the region will go up in flames… that will affect security not only in the region but across the world.”

His words were echoed by Iranian officials, who on Monday shrugged off the threat of a US attack on its close ally Syria, but said that if such a strike were to take place, Israel would suffer.

“[The Americans] are incapable of starting a new war in the region, because of their lacking economic capabilities and their lack of morale,” said Mohammad Reza Naqdi, the commander of the Republican Guards’ elite Basij force.

I don't understand. Syria already has a central bank. Why don't the PTB just control them economically?

Bad for people in the ME AND very bad for Americans. This asshole will not stop until he creates a devastating war that will take our country to its knees & it will take decades (if ever) for us to recover.

Assad will not quietly bend over a knee & accept a spanking. he has his own credibility & respect as a national leader to consider.

Not so sure I agree, unless Putin said to take the spanking. Lots of players getting involved and I'm not sure of the end game.

His regime will take a heavy hit and US backed rebel terrorists could swoop in for the final kill.

Putin would have to be making a substantial offer for Assad to humble himself that way. Assad must maintain the respect of his leadership & loyal followers.

I am not saying he will not get spanked, I am saying to expect him to fight back.

Now that the plan has been exposed it will be pretty obvious if we essentially start this war. I see a face saving move where Obummer attacks a few meaningless targets provided to him by Assad. This allows time for a plan b to be implemented.

Obama the clown spends his time campaigning, vacationing, and going on stupid shows like the view. He's done nothing but damage to OUR country since he was installed as the American puppet prez.

The reason the rodeo clown was so reviled is that he showed that the real Obama is nothing but an ASS clown, though incompetent to do the job of a rodeo clown.
