And... OF COURSE it makes sense to let the world know where you are. It's like a kid who's being cornered by bullies running to the nearby police officer. It's a statement "THIS guy has my back."

As another poster put it, he wants the world to know that Iran is on his side... They have a "duty" or contract, a pact if you will, to protect poor young Assad, just as that police officer does.

It's a message, or maybe a safe harbor for a true retreat for Assad and his "peoples".

I stated it earlier and I'll say it again.... Indications are that he's fled, but it's also possible that he's:

1) Securing his family in a "safe" location
2) Garnering support for the upcoming battle
3) Procuring reinforcements to return with him
(Or any combination of the three)

Only time will tell.

Actually, the Shiite leadership in Iran and Syria (Alawite and Shiites) have been looking to provoke this for years, seems they may have succeeded.

Their twisted Islamic prophecies, the destruction of Israel, war with the great Satan, return of the imam Mahdi, uniting all Muslims in war with the non-Muslim world etc...

Having Assad move to Iran makes sense for them, if it was their plan to provoke this aggression, to justify their war OF terror in retaliation.
