Taking out the eastern grid (which doesn't even exists) would have zero effect on the rest of the country. To take down the whole grid it would have to be done by force by either a joint assault on all eight NERC sites that control the grid or taking out major plants or transmission lines through out the eight NERC sections causing a domino blackout affect. Also when they turned up the gas pressure to blow them up was the most ridiculous shit I'd ever seen. There are safety releases in all of the gas lines that could never happen in real life. |

Especially if you had a concerted effort with a group. Syncronize those watches .......and cut. It would take a long while to get it back up and running. Especially if you hit the storage loops mid-span. And I've been in I.T. over 15 years. Computers get destroyed? We just go back to hand written spreadsheets and typewriters fir a while. It worked that way for hundreds of years before computers, it can work that way again. It just slows things down and forces companies to hire people again for administrative tasks like they used to. Diablo Canyon's 2 reactors have been in operation since 1985 and 1986, respectively. Reactor 1 has been refueled 8 times, and reactor 2 has been refueled 7 times, since the reactors were brought on line in the mid 1980's. All spent fuel is still stored on-site in cooling pools to the northeast of the facility, in open pools similar to those at Fukushima, except for the oldest fuel-assemblies, which are stored in "dry casks" also on the reactor premises. God ol' Diablo has tripped off-line a few times already this year as a result of "maintenance" and "routine faults", so it's definitely ready for a prolonged downer...
