Indian Rupee Collapses - Must Lease It's Gold. Oil Breaks out to 2-year High - Target: $150 per barrel within a week
Indian Rupee Collapses By Most In Over 20 Years

UPDATE: It would appear Abe got a late-afternoon phone-call to sell some JPY and buy some Indian 10Y bonds... (since Traders have not seen the RBI intervene directly - or thru local banks)

From a weak open, the Indian Rupee has now plunged a stunning 3.88% today. This is the largest single-day drop in the Rupee's value since March 1993. The Indian people have lost 30% of their global purchasing power since March 2013 (though those who swapped their paper wealth to gold have seen their purchasing power rise 6% in Rupee terms). With Gold in Rupees having broken to a new all-time high, it would seem the government has little choice but to lease its gold (no matter how vehemntly they deny the fact).

Crude Breaks Through An Asian Sea Of Red To 27 Month High

UPDATE 2: INR at 68.00 (-3.25% - biggest single-day drop since Sept 1995) and WTI Crude at $112.00 -- BNP Paribas Cuts India FY14 GDP Est. to 3.7% From 5.2%) -- *INDIA RUPEE DROPS 19.2% THIS YEAR, SET FOR WORST LOSS SINCE '91

UPDATE 1: Indian Rupee has blasted through 67.00 (down 1.75% on the day against the USD) to another new all-time low - a 15% devaluation in the last 21 trading days!!!

World FX, Bond, and equity markets are a sea of red tonight as the plunge in the US markets' day-session extends into AsiaPac. Led by the Philippines (down another stunning 5.4% tonight), equity markets in Thailand, India, and Japan are all struggling hard. Not to be outdone, bond spreads in the usual suspects of Indonesia, Thailand, India, and Taiwan are cracking wider. Most of the FX pressure is being focused tonight on Indonesia as the Rupiah collapses another 1.4% (even as the Indian Rupee opens at 66.90 - a new all-time low). Modest JPY weakness is providing a small lift carry-wise to US futures (Treasuries are unch, gold and silver are modestly higher from the US close) but it is the oil complex that is getting smashed higher. WTI last traded $111.59 (its highest since May 2011) and Brent just broke $117 (the latter typically more critical for US gas prices)..

SocGen's Shocking Oil Forecast: $150 Upside; $125 Base Case Following Syrian Attack "Within A Week"

If SocGen is right in its just released oil price forecast in a "Syrian war world", then the global economy is about to undergo an apoplectic shock the likes of which have not been seen since the summer of 2008, when Lehman brothers had to be taken under to generate the deflationary shock sending crude from $130 to $30 in the matter of days. The French bank's forecast in a nutshell: "Base case scenario: $125 for Brent. We believe that in the coming days, Brent could gain another $5-10, surging to $120-$125, either in anticipation of the attack or in reaction to the headlines that an attack had started. In our base case, we assume an attack begins in the next week. Upside scenario: $150 for Brent If the regional spill over results in a significant supply disruption in Iraq or elsewhere (from 0.5 – 2.0 Mb/d), Brent could spike briefly to $150." And if indeed 2008 is coming back with a vengeance, the next question is who will be this year's unlucky Lehman Brothers?

Market crash of 2008 came at $147/barrel oil. We are now one missile strike away from those levels again, only this time the entire system is much more weaker and much more vulnerable. It is comparable to getting hit with the flu again, after just barely recovering, only the body is now drained and weakened.

Syria rattles global markets for second day

Japan's benchmark stock index led a tumble in Asian markets early Wednesday, with a fall of more than two percent to a two-month low. Brent crude oil prices extended their gains to a fresh six-month high and a safety bid briefly pushed the yen to its highest level against the dollar in more than two weeks.

Emerging markets were also under renewed pressure, the Philippine stock market dropped 5 percent at one point, before clawing back to finish down 3 percent. European stocks followed their Asian counterparts lower on Wednesday morning, though losses were limited.

Re: Indian Rupee Collapses - Must Lease It's Gold. Oil Breaks out to 2-year High - Target: $150 per barrel within a week
The key overnight events were already discussed previously, but here they are again: the wholesale selloff in Asia (which subsequently shifted to Europe), the accelerating outflows from India (moment ago the SEBI website announced a net INR13.7 billion selling in Indian stocks yesterday and the near record collapse in the Indian Rupee to new record lows, and the ongoing uncertainty over Syria and what it will do to crude prices (if SocGen is right, nothing good). In brief: a market conditioned and habituated to a world in which Bernanke promises "to make everything ok" suddenly finds itself in the throes of uncertainty and following 4 years of dumb trend-following, has no idea what to do.

But wait that's not all: lost in the shuffle was perhaps the most important periodic report out of Europe, its monthly update om M3 (money creation) and private sector loans (debt creation). It was here that the disconnect continued, as July Y/Y M3 rose by 2.2%, slightly less than the 2.3%, but above the 2.0% expected. Yet it was Private Sector Loans that once again grew at a record low pace, declining by yet another 1.9%, compared to -1.6% in June. In other words, the European credit engine continues to contract (i.e., deleverage), and as long as that continue there can be no growth, despite any amount of propaganda.

The U.S. is planning on releasing a new intelligence report that ties the Syrian government to last week's alleged chemical weapons attack.

Also, Wall Street investors are worried about the impact of a possible war and already decreasing housing numbers.

Asian Markets are in a see of red, with the Philippines the worst yet again, down -5.33%.

Indian Rupee continues its collapse, which is now the worst since 1993, crossing USDINR 68.

The Nikkei closes down -1.51% at 13,338.

The USDJPY fell below 97 to trade a low of 96.8625, but has since magically ramped back to 97.2690, which took S&P Futures (ES) back green.

ES is currently up 3.30 handles at 1631.75.

ES session high came in at 1633.50, and low at 1627 even.

Decent action for this time of night in ES.

The crisis in Syria is turning into a regional conflict with major economic consequences, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., told CNBC on Wednesday. And one of the first signs is the rise in the price of oil, he added.

Re: Indian Rupee Collapses - Must Lease It's Gold. Oil Breaks out to 2-year High - Target: $150 per barrel within a week
The market is contending with several scary scenarios that have put a serious crimp in the stock rally. The idea that the U.S. could carry out military strikes on Syria, combined with renewed pessimism about the debt ceiling debate, led the S&P 500 to drop over 1.5 percent Tuesday.

But Krishna Memani, OppenheimerFunds chief investment officer of fixed income, said such concerns are little more than red herrings. The real problem, he cautions, is slow economic growth.

Concerns about the debt ceiling came to the fore on Tuesday, when Treasury Secretary Jack Lew wrote a letter to congressional leaders saying that the U.S. will hit it in mid-October. When that happens, the government will not be able to issue more debt without authorization from Congress. And given how divisive that body has become, even another short-term authorization to keep the government functioning is not counted as a sure thing.

Lew's comments on "Squawk Box" didn't indicate that a compromise is imminent.

"Buy gold and sell euros," closely followed investor Dennis Gartman told CNBC on Wednesday. Given the crisis in Syria, he said, "that's probably going to be the better trade at this moment now."

Gold prices rallied to 3½-month highs above $1,430 an ounce on Wednesday as concern about a military strike against Syria by the U.S. and its allies sparked safe-haven buying and, in turn, short-covering.

Been up late watching Bloomberg, seeing the Rupee cratering.
Anyhow, On Monday late in the cash session, the -1000 tick alarm was ringing over and over, market taking quick dive.
News check revealed Kerry beating the war drum.
Was already in USO 34 calls, with markets falling, I did a quick spec trade entry, USO 40 calls, delta 20's low IV, Oct exp. This to capture bigger price move and expanding IV.
In these @ .52, @ 1.25 here.
I pulled fib on price and time. If CL breaches 113.25, it could go to next fib cluster, 118.03 - 119.5, 9-10-2013 is the next fib date, cheers.

PS: Already breached 1st fib target last night of 110.63
