According to new research, within 3 years of the 2011 Fukushima nuclear plant disaster, the resulting radioactive ocean plume will reach American shores. It is likely to be harmless.

Atmospheric radiation was detected within days of the incident along the west coast, but ocean particles take considerably longer to travel the same distance.

In the paper, published in the journal Deep-Sea Research 1, researchers from the Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science used various ocean simulations to track the path of the radiation from its source and identify the most likely travel paths for the next 10 years.

Aug. 28, 2013: Fukushima radioactive plume being tracked toward U.S. West Coast [...] The radioactive plume from the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster will reach U.S. shores within 3 years of the date of the incident, Australian researchers say. [...] “Observers on the West Coast of the United States will be able to see a measurable increase in radioactive material three years after the event,” researcher Erik van Sebille said in an ARC release Wednesday. “However, people on those coastlines should not be concerned as the concentration of radioactive material quickly

How exactly do they expect it to become harmless.. The cesium an strontium alone have a half life of 30 years. and it takes aobut 10 half lifes for it to become nearly harmless so thats about 300 years.. And for a comparison the city of chernobyl wont be habitable for at least another 22,000 years.

Can't say I am surprised. The balloon bombs landed in Oregon during World War 2. Jet stream and Ocean Gyre don't lie. It is what it is. Now, what will be done about it? I see the raising of allowed contamination in our future (yet again).

The ocean is huge. If there is radiation from Fukushima, it will be diluted like everything else. No way to pollute the ocean, it is too big.

I thought it already has reached the coast...

They're picking stuff off the beaches from CA to Alaska...
