Im an avid smoker and I hate flicking an end. I put it out on the bottom of my shoe or the ground and stuff it in my pocket. Normally the ones I have in my pocket I take what little tobacco is left and make a smoke in my cigarette maker. You SHOULD be fined for doing in MY OPINION but that type of fine and PRISON sentence is insanity at least.

Even when I smoked, I practiced the U.S. Army method of cigarette disposal. Extinguish it, field strip it, then put it in your pocket.

This has nothing to do with litter or fires, it's just another way to discriminate against smokers.

Earlier this year, where I live in San Diego County - we had like 1-2 fires a day along the highway due to just this reason - they kept on having to come out and put out the fires day after day, until finally all the bit of grass along the highway was gone, then they got to go back to their playing cards and ribs.

I just see it as an act of character and me being a cheap ass. lol What pack I can purchase I rather no squander. 9 times out of 10 there is still plenty of usable tobacco left inside of a cigarette. Newport 100's for example; those have a rediculous amount of tobacco inside past the green line because the actual filter is smaller than some other brands. Hell, I'll snatch smokes at gas stations and stores, rip off the filter piece and keep the rest. Its not like anything past the filter was touched, let alone INSIDE the paper wrapping.

Hey, if your case can be made that their offending behavior is prevalent everywhere and has the ability to destroy personal property then you've made a believer of me.

If your case rests on their pitchy singing of "Proud Mary" in their shower then move along.

Think about it...this is one of those arguments a reasonable person just couldn't argue against criminalizing. But a FELONY??? Think about the consequences.

This is a police state plan. Plain & simple.
You may not like cigarette smokers, that's fine. But this is obviously an unjust law. And if this law gets enforced, it is guaranteed there will be more like this, and soon everyone will be a felon, including you.
Illinois also has the 3-strike rule. 3rd conviction and it's life without parole.

One night a driver flicked a lit cigarette butt out the window and I watched in abject horror as it bee-lined straight towards my car's grille! I pulled over as soon as I was able to make sure I was not gonna burn the heck up! GRRRRRRRR

If you toss your butts on the ground then you should be charged with your standard littering violation.

Though I think you should spend 120 hours of community service picking up nothing but cigarette butts.

Depending on brand...you can get some cheap ACE smokes for like 28/Carton my way. I think it runs around high thirties for Marlboro.

I've already expressed my opinion that this was overbearing but as a community, smokers need to realize that their behavior is not going to be overlooked anymore.

Surely this should not be a felony offense and you can make a case that there is a political motivation for putting such a law in place... BUT SMOKERS BEHAVIOR OPENS THEM TO THESE KIND OF ATTACKS!
