op might not be far off, look at all the masonic illuminati symbolism in the movie pacific rim. maybe they are genetically created monsters created by the illuminati? they are making creatures in those underground bases all over the world, that much we know, why would they not make giant monster creatures ? or maybe they are the top leaders of the reptilian empire like op suggested ?
