Lol, 80% of people in this thread are plane stupid (most of them americans)

Who said that being a Republic means that you can't have democracy? It's like me saying I am swiss, and then someone comes along and says, no you are white!

And no, the USA is NOT the world's oldest constitutional democracy. There are many other countries that had a constitutional democracy way before the USA.

Democracy itself has been invented by the athens around 6000 BC, while the USA is only a few 100 years old, being one of the youngest countries around.

He's stepping into the punch. He bottled it after Great Britain made it clear that illegal wars are not right.

Kind of like saying "I know what is right but if the people don't my hands are tied by law.

Re: Obongo thinks Merica is 'the world's oldest constitutional democracy'
The confusion between whether the US is a democracy or a republic (it is the latter) is symptomatic one of the underlying problems we Americans have: Liberals have scrubbed information about government, civics, and all other aspects of citizenship from our public "education" system. This was entirely on purpose, so they could prepare the sheep for the coming imposition of socialism. All is going according to plan.

Sadly, one way the socialists are subverting the republic is by concentrating Democrat voters in the cities until those voters can decide elections. The Democrats do this by driving Republicans out of the cities by leveling ruinous taxes on the productive, who are majority Republican, and using that money to pay their constituencies not to work. These indigent Democrat constituencies then have all day to commit crimes against middle-class folks who vote Republican. This pincer move of confiscation and attacking persists until the Republicans finally leave the cities.

The Democrats then pay their constituencies to have more and more children, all of whom have grown up knowing nothing except life-long dependence on socialist government wealth redistribution, continuing this until the dependent population of the cities rivals the population of the rest of the state. Thus, the state ends up having a majority of voters who are dependent on the socialists, even though they live in a geographically small portion of the states.

This is partly why Obama won last time: There are so many Democrats, leftists and the dependent voters they buy votes from concentrated in the cities that they can effectively sway elections. If you want confirmation of this, simply look at a county-by-county map of the result of the last election. With the exception of coastal libtarded states, Democrat voters are concentrated in the cities.

This also explains why Republicans do better in state and local elections than they do in national elections: National elections are winner-take-all affairs, with one or a small number of candidates elected by the whole state. State elections consist of large numbers of state electoral districts each contesting elections.

That's how a state that elects Obama can have a majority-Republican legislature: Even if 75% of voters reside in the cities and all vote Democrat, the remaining 25% votes in local elections, and they generally vote Republican. So a Democrat President can win because that 75% of liberals and the people they buy votes from live in cities and vote Democrat, but a legislature can be majority Republican because its representatives are elected from all around the state.

BTW, another little factoid you probably never thought of: Ever wonder why Obama made the "57 states" error? Because there ARE 57 states. OF ISLAM.

Re: Obongo thinks Merica is 'the world's oldest constitutional democracy'
He's basically correct if we take democracy to be equivalent to the American model. You sperglords who are talking about republics do not seem to understand that the word used does not matter as much as the reality it is meant to represent (like algebra we could just as easily call it x), which at this time means the American model of liberal representative democracy.

I'm pretty sure Obama's correct.

America is the oldest continually dysfunctional constitutional democracy.

The key words are continously functioning contitutional democracy.we are the oldest.we are a republic with modified democratic aspects.yes their are older writs and documents that qualify as constitutions, however the continous implementation of these is another story.

Democracy implies freedom. That freedom would lead to some being enslaved implies that the slavers are free to do so.
Democracy lays no claim to being a cure all for all ills.
